Day 64 - Frankfurt to Amsterdam

Today was another transport stage for our trip. We left Frankfurt with a plan to get as many of the 470 kilometres completed as early as possible. Driving at 130 kilometres per hour on the autobahn ensured we made good progress. There is a noticeable change once you cross the border into The Netherlands, the speed immediately dropping to 100 kilometres per hour. After the fast pace on the German autobahns, it was a pleasant change for the traffic to move at a more sedate pace.

By 1:00 pm, we were about 80 kilometres from Amsterdam, so we stopped in a small town and bought a few things for lunch. We then stopped off on the side of the road for a picnic lunch. By 3.00 pm, we had reacted Amsterdam and our accommodation.

Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands, and it is famous for its canals. The city has over 100 kilometres of canals, and it is often referred to as the "Venice of the North" because of its waterways. What is initially evident is its cycling culture.
