Euroadster ’23

A pass is a gap in a high mountain ridge formed when a stream erodes the land between areas of higher terrain. On today's drive, we drove six passes in one day.

1. Butter Tubs Pass is a high mountain pass located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The pass gets its name from the large limestone potholes that are found in the area. These potholes are known as butter tubs, and legend has it that butter was stored in them to keep it cool during the summer months.

2. Wrynose Pass reaches an altitude of 393 meters (1,290 ft) above sea level and is known for its steep gradients and sharp bends

3. The Hardknott Pass is known for its steep gradient and hairpin turns, making it a challenging drive for motorists. The pass rises to a height of 393 meters and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

4. The Whinlatter Pass is a stunning mountain pass offering scenic views of the Lake District countryside and is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists. The pass is known for its steep inclines and hairpin turns, making it a challenging but rewarding route.

5. Newlands Pass is situated between the valleys of Buttermere and Keswick, and the pass reaches a maximum altitude of 333 meters (1,093 feet) and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lakes.

6. Honister Pass offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The pass connects the towns of Borrowdale and Buttermere. The road through Honister Pass is narrow and winding, with steep drops on either side. It is not recommended for inexperienced drivers or those uncomfortable with heights.

It was a long drive today, but well worth the effort to drive and see the sights of these six passes.Baca lagi
