Paddling

There are three medium sized lakes and one has a boat ramp. Apparently very slimy. I ended up on my butt but able to retrieve my boat and get in some paddling. It was gorgeous and lots of birds .
Luckily found a grassy spot to exit and did so a bit more gracefully.Read more

In New Mexico, one more night of all utilities before arrival at the Balloon Fiesta where I will be without. I am excited and worried. But charging everything with a battery and topping off water. This should be an interesting 10 days.. Don't worry I have a campsite already reserved in Lubbock with full hook ups.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

All set up, solar working and fantastic weather. Pilot presentation in an hour and only worry is the airstream next to me with five dachshund. The bonus is that the blue roofed building is General Mills cereal products. Currently smells like chocolate chip cookies!Read more

Mass Ascension

Breakfast and coffee at 5 am, on launch field at 5:45 am. They did an awesome light show using drones, the launched 8 balloons to check winds, a military fly over in formation and all balloon set ups on the field flamed their burners in recognition. Then started the inflation and launching of 550 balloons .
They were all off in about 90 minutes. Due to perfect wind patterns they were able to float south then go up a bit and float north and then land back on the same field. It was fabulous.Read more

Lazy today so after 5 am breakfast I sat outside the trailer and watched. Different view and could refill my coffee. A couple came pretty close. Later today going to a music event at a sister campsite and tonight I will go to the glow event and fireworks .Read more

Sunset Rise

I got the chance to crew for the pilot that did our presentation on Friday.
They did a tethered glow. Followed by skydivers with sparklers and fireworks. Really fun. I did crowd control and kept people away from the balloon. Perfect for me.Read more

Target competition

Interesting day. Sitting in a truck waiting to set up.
We set up in a brewery parking lot. The pilot flew back to the Fiesta grounds and dropped two bean bags on targets. We helped him deflate and pack up there . Awesome experience. Now for a shower , lunch and a bike ride to Canteen Brewery. Great variety of beers and went with a group, 6 mile one way on a good bike path.Read more

Day 2 of crewing

First up is "Dawn Patrol". They launch in dark to get the feel of the wind. Their info determines if the balloons will fly.
We set up outside of the Fiesta to do a competition.
I got to go up on Sunset Rise. We landed on the reservation and hour later.Read more

Day 3 of crewing

Due to potential weather ,pilot decided to do a static fill. We stayed at the Fiesta park.
Done early so went back to trailer, took hot shower and now heading to Santa Fe on a train. Looking forward to a walk around town and a good lunch.Read more

Monty's First Day

Met up with Monty the Black Sheep's pilot at 6 am. The winds were considered a bit dicey so they only did static displays. This balloon is not easy to set up or deflate but sure is cute to look at . Today we are supposed to have winds well over 20 mph. So far pretty calm on the ground.
A bunch of new balloons showed up today also.Read more

Perfect flying day. All kinds of special shaped balloons
Of course Monty is the best.plus his pilot let other crew members kids "milk" the balloon. They had a blast. Greg Ashton is a great pilot

Last Day with Monty

Beautiful day but rather wild winds when came time to land Monty. Ended up next to my RV so after we packed them up I walked home. Watched the eclipse. Ring of fire was awesome but really cold, 45and windy. Went to and Arts and Crafts show.
Now having fried green beans and a hazy IPA at Boxing Bear Brewery.Read more

I found the remote control mini balloons. Watched some of the Glow (balloons are inflated but on the ground and they use the propane burners to light them up).

Today was a challenge
1. Asked at 4:30 am if I could crew. Made it to field and high winds and a transmission problem in case vehicle. No one was able to fly.
2. Packed up and started out of campsite, some how caught a safety cone under front bumper
3. I-40 was closed of course after I got on.
4. Found a back road route but that added hours.
5. The latch broke on my "escape" window on the trailer. It was flapping. A little string and bungee cord works
But did make it to Lubbock and have full hook ups and going to catch up on shorts.Read more

Stopped at Barking Rocks winery outside of Granbury Tx. Joy and Joanne Jarrett live there. They are Nathan's Aunt and Grandmother. Joy, the Aunt has been ill and I stopped to see how they were doing. We chatted and made some plans. Then I returned to the trailer and the owner met me and the two of us did a wine tasting. Actually had great red such as a merlot, montiputiano, mulverde. So this morning was foggy and then raining. But sun came out for a bit so got out my kayak. Lake is about 10 ft down so had to walk down ramp thru some gunky stuff and then off. I was only one out. Except for a variety of birds. Maybe thunderstorms this afternoon. Met a full time RV family. They have 6 kids under ten youngest is 6months plus a teenager. Not sure how they make that work or how they convince the Chevy van to pull their 30 ft rig. Wish them luckRead more
