  • Big Bend National Park

    January 19, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 61 °F

Found the park and have hiked 2 canyons and found the hot springs. 70 at river and 55up at chiso basin. Sunny and clear The photos are of the campsite and then Chisos Basin. I need to get some of the other photos out of the camera. That will require patience and wifi. Maybe on Saturday morning.
Ok so found them this evening, Pictures 3 and 4 are St. Elena Canyon, Picture 5 is the hot springs literally on the banks of the Rio Grande. The last photo is from the Chimneys trail this morning and the petroglyphs on one of the chimneys.

  • Marfa

    January 20, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 61 °F

So just arrived. Drive from Big bend thru. Presidio was spectacular but a little scary, the road made several turns and many steep narrow curves. But worth it, all along the Rio Grande river.
Tonight I will brave the winds to maybe see the famous Marfa lights.

Ok so that is a bit bizarre. Saw the lights and listened to an "expert" explain them Sort of weird, just like flashlights in the desert. Luckily they put a red flashing beacon so you know where to look. Ok chalk that up to done.

  • The end of the wind. Lordsburg, TX

    January 21, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 43 °F

So i gave up after 160 miles of driving in 45 mph winds with dust storm, rain and oh the winds were in my face. Reached Lordsburg and decided to find a motel and stop. The hail sort of gave me an incentive. Bought a pizza and filled the van with gas and hunkered down. Tomorrow is supposed to be much better and the sun did come out but I am here and staying
Check out the photo of a tethered aerostat radar detector Really only in west Texas. So tomorrow Arizona tonight pizza and beer.

    January 23, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

This was suggested to me by a woman I sat and stared at the Marfa lights with. Really unexpected.
for those that have traveled to see some of the ornate cathedrals this one was very interesting. They could not afford marble and granite so they painted the stucco to appear to be marble. All of the decorations are "fake" they are either painted or done with depth relief by carving . They are restoring the domes with a mixture of sand, gypsum and aloe that they cook and then spread on in very thin layers.Read more

  • Roper lake state park

    January 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 32 °F

Survived the night toasty warm under my electric blanket, so spoiled. Woke up to 27 degree and this view. But best part is no wind!!!!! ducks on the lake ate chatting away.
Hiked a trail st the park down the road and then got up my nerve to go paddling. It was awesome. The new kayak is a blast to paddle, I can go straight!!!!
I love the forecast for tomorrow: Abundant sunshine
I will be heading to new Mexico in the morning probably after it warms up some.

    January 28, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 32 °F

So of course I found a unique coffee shop. It has some very interesting art and overlooks all of Alamogordo.
I decided to share some "home shots" today. First is my "bedroom" , second my Sitting room, third my kitchen and last my garage. I am having a blast and even though it is cold I sleep warm and so far the showers have been hot.
NOW the last two are of my neighbor at Oliver Lee State Park. He is a homeless man with 3 chihuahuas who comes to the park for 14 days and then has to leave for 6 and comes back for 14. Supposedly he has been doing this for 2 years. I wonder about moving day. At night he has all of these christmas lights and during the day it just looks like a pile of junk.

So I am mental and did their 3mile dune hike. They rate it strenuous and I agree. But it was fascinating to be totally surrounded by sand and no one else. Thank goodness for trail markers. The last photo is the only safe way I found down a steep dune, slide on your butt.Read more
