    Well, this is something I've never had to worry about in Queensland. Could it be a white Christmas?

    Christmas Eve is a big part of Christmas celebrations over here. Everything shuts around 2 in the afternoon and it's party time.

    We put up our Christmas tree (branch) and a few token gifts. Which is cool, because whatever gifts we get we have to drag around Europe for the next year.

    As predicted, it's warmed up to about 7 degrees and the snow is pretty much gone, but still feels unreal to be here.

    We had an early dinner at the same Hungarian restaurant we went to the other day. Melissa had recommended it to us and the food was awesome. An authentic home style Hungarian dinner. Nicky was especially pleased... I think this is the first time in years she hasn't had to cook a Christmas dinner.

    After the meal, we wandered home back along the Danube. The river is quite impressive. At 500m wide, it makes Australian rivers look like creeks.

    Anyway, time to relax and celebrate. Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you!    Read more

    For Christmas Day, we decided to treat ourselves to something special and booked a dinner cruise on the Danube.

    Buda Castle

    We had a couple of beautiful days, so wandered around the city to see the sights. We spent the morning exploring the Jewish Quarter, then crossed the river to see Buda Castle.

    There is so much to look at. I love the architecture and statues that are spread out across the city. Apparently many of these statues started off as political statements, but was such a hit with the tourists the city now commissions many of them.Read more

    Our next port of call is Bratislava in Slovakia. A smaller, but very interesting, city with a rich history.

    We returned to Prague to celebrate the new year. No official fireworks happening, but plenty of unofficial ones going off.

    A Lazy Day in Prague

    We were up late last night with the fireworks, so it was a late start and an easy wander around Prague. Well, not that easy... still walked over 10k.

    Went down to visit the Dancing House, one of many quirky things to see here in Prague. We then crossed the Danube to see the western side, which included the Lennon Wall. The wall, in a back street, started when an artist painted a picture of Lennon after he was assassinated. It grew from there...

    Then back to the unit... stopping for a beer at the Beatles themed pub for a drink and some munchies at the markets.    Read more

    It was rainy today, so we headed up to explore the castle on the hill overlooking Prague...

    On the way up, it was a bit unnerving to pass the site of the shooting from a few weeks back. Lots of candles as a memorial to the victims. Very emotional...Read more
