• Park Guell

A very interesting park with many foot paths to explore, nice afternoon.

Originally a failed housing project, mostly due to the very steep hillside.

Park Güell was initially conceived as a residential estate for Barcelona’s wealthy elite. Eusebi Güell commissioned Antoni Gaudí to design a garden city with 60 houses, but due to poor sales and logistical challenges, only two houses were ever built and the project was abandoned in 1914

The park is one of Antoni Gaudí’s most iconic works, showcasing his unique style inspired by natural forms and organic shapes. Gaudí’s vision is evident throughout the park, from the serpentine benches to the mosaic-covered structures.

Opened as a public park in 1926 after the failure of the housing project, the land was eventually purchased by the City of Barcelona. Park Güell officially opened to the public as a municipal park in 1926, the same year Gaudí died.

Antoni Gaudí himself lived in one of the two houses built on the estate from 1906 until his death in 1926. This house is now the Gaudí House Museum, open to visitors
