A trip two years in the planning to be part of the Paris Olympics, as well as getting to Champagne, Dijon, Mont St. Michel, and Beaches of Normandy to pay our respects. Read more
  • American Cemetary

    August 9, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

This one teared me up... as we walked in from the parking lot and first caught sight of all the crosses, the tears popped up. Over 9300 people buried in this place. It is so beautifully done and such a dignified and peaceful resting place.Read more

  • Livarot - Cheese Museum and Tasting

    August 9, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

After the heavy morning, we decided to add some heavy food (ok - that was bad). We stopped in Livarot - one of 4 AOC designations in Normandy for cheese. They created a neat museum from the Norman cows and their wonderful milk to being able to watch the cheesemaking, storing, packing and labeling. And of course it ended with a tasting of Livarot, Point d'Evoque, Neufchatel and Camembert. ymmmmRead more

  • Baroudeur

    August 9, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

Not the most elegant dinner, but close to Gare du Nord and we could store our bags near us. Steak for Bill and Duck for me. Mostly it was a time to sit for a calm (rainy) moment and say au revoir to Paris.Read more

  • London bound

    August 9, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

Waking up in Bayeux, a moving tour of the WWII locations, driving to lLvarot and then to Paris, changing stations. It was a lot. But we are settled in on our train to London!

  • Big Bus first Stop.

    August 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

When you only have one day to sightsee, a Hop on Hop Off tour is a great way to do it. We started at Covent Garden and saw St. Paul, crossed over to see the Shard before crossing Tower Bridge.

  • Tower of London

    August 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 66 °F

It is really weird to have a walled castle with a grassy moat and drawbridges sitting in town with the backdrop of modern buildings.... but that's what the old world does!

  • River Cruise on the Thames

    August 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

A river cruise on the Thames is included with our bus ticket so we jumped on.... unfortunately, so did dozens and dozens of early high school aged kids from Romania, Armenia, and other countries. They were in London to learn English, but what we learned is teenagers are annoying in groups in any language!

We did enjoy seeing some sights from the water.

  • Buckingham Palace

    August 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

When in London, you gotta see it.... even if you find the monarchy silly. It's a big, lovely palace and the guards are fun to look at. The flowers and gardens around are equally as impressive!

  • Green Park

    August 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

We cut through Green Park to head to the Hard Rock. After such a chaos of tourists around Buckingham Palace, the park was peaceful and serene and these knobby old trees were fun. We came out of the park at a WWII monument.Read more

  • The OG Hard Rock

    August 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

We always find the Hard Rock Cafe in any city we travel to so Bill can keep building his pin collection (it will be worth millions someday!) But this is the original - the first. It was pretty neat to be there.Read more

  • LCC Fire Brigade

    August 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

We struggled to find a place for fish and chips and wound up at this place for a nibble before the theater. It was interesting people watching - including the homeless guy that leaned over the rail to ask for money, spittle flying as he hung over us.Read more

  • The Old Vic

    August 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

We didn't go to the West End for theater, but instead enjoyed The Old Vic and closing night of The Constituent starring James Corden. It was interesting to see him in a serious - at times very serious - role. The theater is old (hence the name) and small but pretty. Also not great for anyone over 5' to sit in the seats, but we survived. lolRead more

  • Homeward Bound!

    August 11, 2024 in England ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

It's been fun, but it is time to get home! An early departure from St. Pancras station, a little English Breakfast at the airport and then a long flight. Ten hours - 5 movies! But we got home and unloaded all these great souvenirs!Read more
