We made the National World War II Museum our focus for our arrival day. It is amazing.... though we have to admit we were both puzzled about why it is in New Orleans and not in DC. The history of the u-boat is explained and its ties to the area.
The museum is so well done. We both learned so much, even after thinking this was a period of history we knew fairly well.
The holocaust portion is not yet finished so we didn't get to see that, which might be good. We were mentally tired after several hours in the museum and the emotional weight of the holocaust deserves a fresh mindset.

Kiss A Pig ADA Event

The American Diabetes Association Kiss A Pig event at the Four Seasons was the real reason for the trip. The event was lovely and celebrated the humble pig that was so instrumental in the development of insulin as a treatment for diabetes. Sunday we visited Vue Orleans which is actually attached to the Four Seasons. It is relatively new and is an interactive history of New Orleans, food and music and then awesome views around the city.
We also visited the Presbytere which houses a museum that covers the history of Mardi Gras and also the impact of Hurricane Katrina. They couched it in terms of dispair and hope.
