La Paz ist die höchstgelegene Verwaltungshauptstadt weltweit und befindet sich in der Altiplano-Hochebene der Anden auf mehr als 3.500 m über dem Meeresspiegel. Sie erstreckt sich bis zur Stadt El Alto im Hochland, in deren Hintergrund der schneebedeckte 6.438 m hohe Berg Illimani aufragt, Die spektakuläre Umgebung der Stadt haben wir bei einer Fahrt mit der Gondel Mi Teleférico erlebt.
