Nog sneller dan Napoleon weg vluchtte uit Waterloo, snelden wij naar het drukst bezochte museum ter wereld. Even checken of dat echt zo is. Toch dankzij een tip van onze gids (Paris à vélo /mama) redelijk snel binnen. De volledige museumtour van 16 km hebben wij een beetje ingekort. Uiteraard even gepasseerd bij de Mona Lisa. Zoek ze maar op één van de foto's. Even wat leerrijke info over de Franse benaming van de Mona Lisa, het beroemdste portret ter wereld. Het toont Lisa Gherardini, de vrouw van de Florentijnse zijdehandelaar Francesco del Giocondo – vandaar haar Italiaanse naam La Gioconda en haar Franse naam La Joconde.Read more

Day 6
Day 4 Paris.

Set off after breakfast to walk to Saint Chapelle built in the mid 13th century by King Louis the 1X (later to become Saint Louis). The most incredible stained-glass windows and elaborately decorated ceiling, walls and floors. Indescribablely beautiful.
The photos don't really do it justice.
After dragging ourselves away we walked to the Metropolitan garden centre. Wow, what a hit for the senses.
Glorious spring flowers in full bloom.
So fragrant and colourful.
Left there to walk to a favourite Cafe behind Notre Dame, Le Esmeraldas, for coffee while watching the world go by in the sunshine.
Walked along the Seine taking in the views and stalls of art and books.
Went from there to Le Depart Saint Michel a favourite restaurant for lunch.
After a delicious lunch we walked to a garden square to sit and enjoy our last afternoon in Paris.
Return to the hotel to freshen up before going to our favourite evening restaurant, Metro on Saint Germain.Read more

Day 5
Day 3 Paris.

Set off early this morning by taxi to catch an 8.30am train to Reims at Garde l'est station which has 28 platforms.!!
A 45 minute trip on Euro rail.
Spent the day looking around the city that was in walking distance.
Such an historic and beautiful place.
The Notre Dame Cathederal, monuments, cafes and restaurants.
Picturesque squares with open air cafes with beds of flowers and fountains.
Had a delicious brunch in the Cafe du Palais.
Then spent time in the Cathederal before setting off to explore the city.
Stopped for a quite drink at L' Apostrophe restaurant.
Meandered our way back to the station at 2pm to catch a 2.15pm train back to Paris.
Brendan very happy to have experienced a long awaited train journey.
Caught a taxi back to our hotel arriving at 3.45pm.
Spent time just relaxing before going out for dinner.

Day 2 Paris.

What a great day!!!!
Set of after breakfast and walked to Notre Dame Cathederal. I have so looked forward to seeing the restoration since the fire in 2019.
Such a uplifting spiritual experience.
A few tears of over whelming joy to actually be in this amazing building.
Took time to light candles and pray for loved ones.
Then spent time to absorb the beauty of the structure. Magnificent paintings, stunning stain glass windows and beautiful sculptures.
Just the best experience ever. Then
walked back to to the hotel after stopping for coffee and cheesecake at a side walk Cafe just behind Notre Dame in glorious sunshine. Oh Paris is something else.
After a short rest we took a taxi to the Champs Elysees to explore the shops and have lunch. Had a delicious lunch watching the crowds go by.
Return by taxi to the hotel for a relax before venturing out for dinner to one our favourite restaurants on Saint Germain.Read more

Der (vorerst) „letzte“ Museums-Besuch

Das Museum Musée national du Moyen Âge, bekannt als Musée de Cluny, gehört zu den bedeutendsten Sehenswürdigkeiten von Paris. Es befindet sich im Quartier Latin im 5. Arrondissement und wird seit 2019 von Séverine Lepape geleitet.

Um das Jahr 200 wurden im antiken Lutetia die heute als Thermes de Cluny bekannten Thermen gebaut, um das Jahr 380 wurden sie weitgehend zerstört. Lediglich das Kaltwasserbad ist zum großen Teil erhalten geblieben und in das Museum integriert. Es gilt mit einer Länge von über 20 m als einst größtes Kaltwasserbad in der Provinz Gallien.
Im Jahr 1330 erwarb der Abt der Abtei Cluny Pierre II. de Chastelux die Überreste der Anlage, um zukünftig eine eigene Unterkunft im Besitz der Abtei bei Besuchen am königlichen Hof in Paris zu haben. Von 1455 bis 1510 wurde auf dem Grundstück der Palast Hôtel de Cluny gebaut. Die dabei errichtete Kapelle ist ein Einstützenraum, der von Eugène Viollet-le-Duc hoch geschätzt wurde.[1] Der Bau des späten 15. Jahrhunderts verbindet Stilelemente der Spätgotik und der Renaissance. 1842 wurde das Ensemble zum Staatsbesitz, 1844 wurde das Museum eröffnet.Read more
