Nana and Papa Arrive

It had been 8.5 months since we last saw Nana and Papa Moke. They arrived just a little too late to catch Cole’s team win their semifinal rugby match, but when they got here, everyone was thrilled and excited to see them!

Knowing they’d be tired after a day of travel, we kept the first two days fairly relaxed.

On Saturday, we did the Hudson and Doreen walk to take in the views overlooking the Glencar area. Then we headed back to the house for some games.

On Sunday, we did a bit of sightseeing — a walk through Benbulben Forest, Mullaghmore loop drive, a tour of Manorhamilton, and then wrapped up the day with a big Easter dinner.Read more

Rosse Beach

This morning, Tam and Rick left to continue their travels in Northern Ireland. We had a late night last night and were all tired, but we didn’t want to waste the beautiful weather today. We decided to check out Rosse Beach, and what a great decision that was! This beach is amazing, and I can see us spending many more trips here, walking and playing on the shore. Doneens and Hudson walk

Our weekly Tuesday hike took us to a place close to home but offered different views, and this hike did not disappoint. It featured 320 meters of elevation, leading us through the woods to an open field that climbed the hills and provided an outstanding view. The hike was 6.5 kilometers long. We often see these hills from our place, and it was nice to experience the view from the top. This is a walk we will bring visitors to see as well. End with watching the sunset by the waterRead more

The Devil Chimney

We decided when we all got done school we would go for a hike. We looked around at ones around us and decided to check this one out. It was intriguing because we saw this waterfall on the drive home from a rugby Saturday morning and it was going upwards

The Irish name for this fall is Sruth in Aghaidh An Aird - means stream against the height and denotes the fact that during certain weather conditions when the wind blows from the west the waterfall is blown upwards and back over the cliff from which it falls

This hike was definitely steep, Deanna had already done a lower body work out with Addy and a 11 k hike the day before so she was sore but she was a good sport.

The kids at the beginning did not want to go, once we made it to the top, we were all happy we went the view was amazing

Heute verbrachten weine ruhige Nacht inmitten der Natur und Schafen. Weiter Richtung Norden geht die Reise.
Da sich unsere Wäschetüte bis zum Anschlag gefüllt hat, müssen wir einen Waschtag einlegen. Angekommen an der Laundrette Revolution gleich mal die Tonne füllen. Und, eigenes Waschmittel obendrauf gegossen. Ich hoffe, das passt so, denn Waschmittel ist da auch inkludiert. Nur bei der letzten Wäsche roch es kein bißchen nach Waschmittel 🙄 und ich liebe einfach den Geruch von frischer Wäsche (dennoch war sie sauber). Noch kommen keine Seifenblasen aus der Maschine 😏....
Inzwischen haben wir wieder einmal das Gefühl von Hektik, uns läuft mal wieder die Zeit davon und wir bewegen uns "Dead slow" voran 🤷🏼‍♀️. Na, bis Dienstag ist ja noch ein wenig Zeit das ist unser Motto. Jedoch gibt es hier noch soviel zu sehen. 😬Read more

Voilà le 154ème jour de pédalage qui s'achève.

Nous avons passé 3 nuits dans la petite ville de Donegal où nous avons profité des pubs et resto mais aussi d'une petite croisière dans la baie.

On s'est donc élancé aujourd'hui sous un temps très maussade mais qui s'est bien éclairé dans l'après-midi.
Nous avons quitté le comté de Donegal pour celui de Sligo. Il paraît que finalement, c'est ici le meilleur coin de l'Irlande ahah on dirait qu'ils sont bien chauvins ici aussi.

Grosse surprise de la journée : premier refus bien sec d'un Irlandais de nous accueillir dans son jardin 😱
Finalement on a suivi des conseils et on a opté pour un emplacement au bord de l'eau... Mais un peu trop dans le vent.

La nuit risque d'être bien agitée !Read more

On the beach

Es ist gestern spät geworden, die Polarlichter haben uns wachgehalten.
Auf der Weiterfahrt treffen wir noch ein paar Mal unsere holländischen Nachbarn vom Pub, zuletzt beim Lidlshopping. Einfach nette Leute mit viel Humor.
Genau, unsere Voräte sind aufgebraucht und Mr. Lidl verdient gut an uns. Wir wagen uns sogar an Black and White Pudding. Schauen wir mal, wie das schmeckt.
Zum ersten Mal haben wir einen Camping im Voraus gebucht, wir wollen etwas zur Ruhe kommen, ausserdem mal Waschen usw. Und die Buchung war nicht unberechtigt. Der kleine Strandort in der Nähe von Sligo platzt aus allen Nähten. Schönes Wetter, Wochenende, halb Irland ist on the beach. Das ganze ist dabei auch etwas schräg und schrill. Sehen und gesehen werden. Klasse!
Die Fish und Chips heben wir uns für Montagabend in the Strand Bar auf. Auch gebucht, sicher ist sicher. Pizza 🍕 ist nämlich durch. Morgen wollen wir uns Sligo und besonders die Abtei dort anschauen.Read more

Probably my favorite stop so far, beautiful and peaceful on a sunny light breezy morning.
King Charles father, Prince Phillip Lord Mountbatten, Uncle was killed by the IRA putting a bomb on his boat.
Classiebawn castle close to the head of
Mullaghmore on County Sligo's Wild Atlantic Way, was the holiday home of Louis Mountbatten, a member of the British royal family who was assassinated close by in 1979.Read more

Gibt nicht viel zu erzählen, hat den ganzen Tag ordentlich geschüttet und wir sind ein ganzes Stück gefahren und dann im örtlichen Pub bzw. der Bar eingekehrt. Limerick - Cliffs of Moher - Sligo

Big day today. Up and off at 8 am to start our journey to the Cliffs of Moher along the Wild Atlantic Way.

What beautiful countryside and the Cliffs of Moher - what can I say - bloody unbelievable. The view is lovely. I did not like the look of the walk to the top so I spotted two golf buggies and asked Clarke to go see if they were going up to the top. Clarke says ‘no they won’t be going up there’ so I went and asked myself. The guy goes ‘yeah jump on’. I took a seat and who should plonk their bum beside me - none other than Clarke. Away we go to the top. It was freezing bloody cold at the top and the gale force wind would blow a dog of a chain. After we were done the buggy driver came and got us to go back down.

The Cliffs of Moher are sea cliffs located at the southwestern edge of the Burren region in County Clare, Ireland. They run for about 14 kilometres (9 miles). At their southern end, they rise 120 metres (390 ft) above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag's Head, and, 8 kilometres (5 miles) to the north, they reach their maximum height of 214 metres (702 ft) just north of O'Brien's Tower, a round stone tower near the midpoint of the cliffs, built in 1835 by Sir Cornelius O'Brien.

We then went to the visitor centre for a cappuccino and a cinnamon scroll to warm up and we grabbed some souvenirs.

Back in the bus to head to Galway. Lovely town - apparently it’s the second most expensive city in Ireland after Dublin. We were met with hordes of people again all looking for lunch as we were. This was only a quick stop before we boarded the bus to head to Sligo.

We are in Sligo tonight and we will join the crew from the bus for dinner.Read more
