First stop cemetery to see graves of Jacko's great grand parents. Then to Valdottova to see Giovanna (distant relative to Guazzelli's). She is 90 and amazing. She walked us down to her local Cafe and insisted on buying coffee for us. Not being coffee drinkers Filip & Nicolo had a coke, Jacko had a beer and I had a wine. Mind you this was 10.20am! We reluctantly left her for Lucca. After lunch in the main Piazza of the walled city, we visited the Torture Museum. Sadistic goings on back then. Next stop the Devils Bridge. See photos. Final stop Pisa and the Leaning Tower. What a structure. We climbed the 251 steps to the top. Took some doing! View awesome again. Booked into accommodation. Walked 1km to have tea in recommended restaurant. Good choice. Back by 9pm. Bed time.Read more

Aangekomen in het geboorteplaatsje van Andre Bocelli. Ons appartement en de sfeer in het dorpje is precies zoals we ons herinnerden. Zo ontzettend chill. Na even heerlijk van ons uitzicht te hebben genoten met een glaasje Chianti, hebben we onze wandelroute verkend naar Theatro di Silenzio. De beveiliging doet goed z'n werk. Iets te goed naar onze mening. Die man werd crazy toen hij ons zag en wij hem aanspraken hoe ver het nog lopen was. Sommige mensen🤪

San Gimignano

Am Morgen warten wir auf die Bäckerin, welche auf dem Parkplatz Brot verkauft. Nach dem feinen Kaffee gehts los nach San Gimignano. Wir finden erst nach langem Suchen einen Parkplatz und müssen in der Hitze ein längeres Stück gehen. Der Ort gefällt uns sehr, auch wenn es sehr voll und touristisch ist.
Nach einem feinen Mittagessen geht es zurück in die Wohnung.

Cinque Terra

Joined the masses for the short train ride to Vernazza on the coast. We decided not to go to every town so this was the farthest spot for us on the packed double decker train. Yikes what must high season be like?
Vernazza was so pretty with a beautiful waterfront. Spotted an ocean swimmer with full wetsuit enjoying a workout. You realise just how set into the cliffs the properties are; shop ceilings are rock!
As you would expect, lots of steps and gradients but the views are so worthwhile. Back to the station and hop on to head south to Manarola. Lots of shopping opps again - everything from seafood to go, to hats, belts and limoncello. There's even a Michelin starred restaurant. Interesting info displayed about an annual nativity which lights up the hill top each year.
Still winter season so lots of fishing boats are literally stored in the main street. Must be quite the job to take them down and into the water.
Found a great spot for lunch. I enjoyed triangular shaped pasta stuffed with ricotta and spinach, smothered in a rich walnut sauce. Delish! Richard went for spaghetti with king prawn.
Took the upward path from the harbour to the most beautiful view point filled with osteosporum in full bloom (did I get the plant name right?). Amazing how they farm on such steep terrain - and have gone for 100s of years.
Decided against the trek to Riomaggiore; altho it was the shortest hike in Cinque Terra it was also quite challenging.
Sun was with us today - getting up to 18c. Most people paring down to tee shirts.
Next stop by train was Riomaggiore. Sadly the most disappointing location - lots of construction/reno going on and some areas not easily accessible. We walked to the waterfront where many were taking a dip and then back to the station.
It had been a full day again - we were glad to to pick up a fresh made pizza from a place near our studio. Akin to waiting in the fish & chip shop queue! Fascinating to watch the chef manipulate the pizzas in the big wood fired oven. Literally wood fired with branches and all sorts of logs being fed in.Read more

Naše další dnešní zastávka směřovala do prehistorického parku s dinosaury. Park byl založen v roce 1977 vysloužilými cirkusáky, kteří park vybudovali a provozují dodnes. Všechny modely vyrobili svépomocí a to včetně obřího brachiosaura, jehož náročná výstavba zabrala 4 roky. Nutno podotknout, že vystavené modely navzdory poslední rekonstrukci z roku 2019 odpovídají stavem pojmu "prehistorický" 😀 ale i tak jsme si to užili, hlavně Jáska 😀 a komáři 🦟, co nás tam slušně žrali 🥲Read more

Rückreise

Heute ist schon der letzte Tag und wir fahren nach dem Frühstück los nach Mailand. Trotz Stau sind wir in 4 Stunden dort und bringen unsere Freunde zu ihrem Hotel. Sie verbringen noch eine Woche in Italien, unter anderem sind sie zu einer Hochzeit am Comersee eingeladen, und machen danach eine Kreuzfahrt im Mittelmeer.

Nachdem wir den Mietwagen zurückgegeben haben gehts zum Flughafen Malpense. Ein letztes feines italienisches Essen soll die Reise abschliessen.

Leider hat der Flug viel Verspätung und wir kommen am Schluss erst um 22.25 Uhr in Kloten an.Read more

Séjour chez Cristina et Ben

Je suis arrivé dans la famille de Cristina et Ben qui, avec leur deux filles et leurs 4 chats, vivent eux aussi dans une ancienne maison avec un oliveraie et un jardin.

J’ai découvert plein de nouvelles choses, notamment à couper du bois en morceaux, ce qui est assez passionnant et satisfaisant, et à tailler les oliviers.
J’ai passé de très beaux moments assis sur ces arbres centenaires, sous le soleil filtré par les feuilles (bien que la météo reste assez mitigée).

C’est incroyable de se dire que ces arbres ont été plantés par la personne qui a construit cette maison il y a un ou plusieurs siècles (je n’ai pas bien compris la date) et qu’ils ont pendant tout ce temps fournis en olives les différents propriétaires. Ben nous comparais à des coiffeurs et c’est vrai ! Nous ne faisons que passer et nous nous occupons de ces arbres dont le premier possesseur n’est plus même plus de ce monde. Mais eux ils sont encore là, et ils seront toujours là après nous… Ça impose le respect quand tu es en train de leur couper leurs petites branches.

Nous avons ensuite allumé de grands feux pour se débarrasser de branches et c’était très agréable la facilité avec laquelle on se servait du feu pour réduire ces branches encombrantes en un petit tas de cendre.

J’ai vraiment été très bien accueilli et j’ai eu beaucoup de plaisir à jouer avec les chats, lire devant le paysage magnifique et parler français avec Ben et sa filles qui l’ont appris à l’école et qui ont un accent adorable !

Je repars déjà demain pour Rome, où je vais voir un opéra ! 😁Read more

Aquädukt weg ? Eine Spurensuche

Da es nur ein kleiner Ausflug werden sollte siegte das Acquedotto Di Colognole in der Auswahl des Ziels sogar gegen Pisa.
Nach erneuten spannender Fahrt entwickelte sich das ganze entsprechend des Plotts eines C-Movies. Da war Google Maps mit der festen Behauptung ich könne auf diesen (rudimentär vorhanden) Waldweg abfahren, ein Mann mit Kettensäge, Schilder, Wege die im Gestrüpp enden, verlassene Fahrzeuge und Wohnwagen, ...
... und nein wir haben das Aquädukt nicht gefunden - die letzten Bilder davon stammen aus dem Netz und sind Jahre alt 😞
außer einigen westlichen Erdbeerbäumen mit reifen eßbaren Früchten nichts von einem Aquäduct zu sehen…. leider😩Read more
