  • Day 1 Arrival journey

    August 11, 2017 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌧 5 °C

Today I got up very early at 6 AM to meet with my team for a special, long planned challenge: The plan was to climb an at least 4000 m high mountain in the Swiss Alps, more precisely the Weissmies in the near of Saas-Grund which is 4023 m high. The team consists of Marcel, Nonni and Roger. As Saas-Grund is relatively far away in the south of Switzerland the plan was to get there in 5-6 hours by car. First stop was in Hergatz to pick up Roger who came by train. Then we approached Austria and Switzerland. We wanted to avoid a ferry, but unfortunately the GPS led us over several passes until we have been in the middle of nowhere and the only possibilty was to use the car transport by train. This was a new and cool experience though. Shortly before Saas-Grund there was a road block because in the night before there was such a thunderstorm which led to a rock slide and covered the street. We had to wait 15 minutes and then finally we arrived in Saas-Grund. Unfortunately our guide informed us that there was such a crazy snowfall in the night before and that we cannot go on our tour on the Weissmies this weekend. We have been really disappointed - we had so much effort/anticipation to get here and it was all for nothing!!! :-((( but then we made new plans. After we have arranged an accomodation in Saas-Grund we went to eat something then we headed to Saas-Fee by bus to visit a bar. The bar was nearly empty but quite okay. In the end we took the last bus back to be prepared to what would come on Saturday...Read more

  • Day 2 Via ferrata + mountain panorama

    August 12, 2017 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 2 °C

Our substitute for the Weissmies was a via ferrata (Klettersteig) in the Fee gorge (Fee-Schlucht). We got up at 7 AM and had a great breakfast. After that we took the bus to Saas-Fee and met our guide Beat. The via ferrata was top, some ziplines, ladders and suspension bridges included, really diversified. At the end there was an abseiling into the gorge which was really cool. After the tour we decided to hike up to the middle station (Kreuzboden) of the cable car on the way up to the Weissmies at around 2400m. The weather was getting better and better, the sun was shining and it was quite warm (9 degrees at Kreuzboden, 1 degree at Hohsaas). We took the cable car up to Hohsaas at around 3200m, the highest point you can reach below the Weissmies. The panorama up there is just insane and awesome. From this point one can see 18 mountains over 4000m. We have enjoyed the weather and nature in the snow there for some time and regretted again that we were not able to reach our goal above 4000m which looked so close. Then we went down to Saas-Grund via cable car. We enjoyed the sun and after it went down we prepared ourselves to have dinner. After dinner we went back to our room, listened to music and finally fell into our beds.Read more

  • Day 3 Departure day

    August 13, 2017 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌫 9 °C

Today we got up at 7 AM to enjoy the breakfast. After that we took the cable car up to Hohsaas again. The weather was awesome as the day before and the gigantic view was still impressive. The sun was shining and we enjoyed the time up there before we went down to start the drive home. Marcel planned to go to Milano and left the team already at 10 AM. The rest left Saas-Grund at around 11:30 AM. Roger had to get a flight from Zurich airport, therefore we drove there and had to use a car transport on a train again which was still fun. We dropped Roger at the airport and arrived in Ravensburg 2 hours later. The trip ended and we are planning for next year to hit a 4000m mountain :-)Read more
