Po Lin Monastery (meaning “Precious Lotus Monastery”) was founded in 1906 by three Buddhist monks. At the time, Lantau Island was nothing but a quiet, remote escape—a far cry from the bustling Hong Kong we know today. Over the years, Po Lin has grown into one of Hong Kong’s most important Buddhist temples, attracting both pilgrims and curious travelers like us!

The temple complex is a stunning mix of traditional Chinese architecture and spiritual symbolism. The contrast between the bright reds, blues, and golds of the temple and the misty green mountains in the background made the whole place feel almost surreal.

Worshippers light incense sticks, bowing in quiet reverence. The smell of sandalwood fills the air, adding to the temple grounds’ calming atmosphere.
