Dinner at Boboy

Dinner was at a lovely Uzbek restaurant called Boboy Uzbek Eatery, about a twenty minute stroll from our accommodation.

That stroll did, however, involve crossing a ten lane road 😳

The little green man at the crossing only just gives you enough time to make it across… if you walk at high speed 😂

One thing I’ve noticed here that I absolutely love… some of the crossings have an animated green man. He starts off strolling casually, but as the seconds tick down he speeds up… eventually breaking into a full run. Very effective. I definitely found myself speeding up as he did 🏃‍♀️😂

> Inside the Restaurant

Once we arrived at Boboy, the atmosphere was fantastic. The restaurant was lively, with lots of families and groups celebrating together and a singer performing live music.

She sang a mix of Uzbek songs and some familiar pop tunes but translated and sung in Uzbek, which made them sound completely different and somehow even more fun.

The restaurant was also decorated for Ramadan, though thankfully it wasn’t over the top… just a few tasteful decorations adding to the atmosphere.

I did feel slightly underdressed when we walked in, but no one seemed to mind at all.

> The Food

Our waiter was very helpful, explaining the dishes and helping us choose.

We started with Somsa Olet - a hot meat filled pastry. It was deliciously chewy and served with a sharp tomato dip that cut nicely through the richness.

For my main course I chose Plov, specifically a Celebration Plov. The dish was packed with rice, onions, carrots, chickpeas and dried fruit, all topped with incredibly tender beef that practically melted in the mouth, along with two quail eggs.

To finish I had honey cake, which was wonderfully light and soft, served with a sweet sauce (almost a light custard) and strawberries.

By the end I was extremely satisfied… and wondered if I might have to roll back across that massive road to get back 😂
