• A Day at the Airport

    March 11 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

    A slightly unusual travel day…

Yes, we spent the day at the airport 😂

But when the airport is Singapore Changi Airport, that’s not quite as strange as it sounds.

At the heart of the airport sits The Jewel a place so impressive that even locals come here just to spend the day.

It’s part tropical garden, part shopping mall, part entertainment complex… and also part food paradise 😂😂

    > Breakfast

Our first stop was breakfast at Ya Kun Kaya Toast.

A simple but classic Singaporean breakfast: coffee, soft eggs and toast generously slathered with kaya… a sweet coconut jam that’s sticky, fragrant and addictive 😜

    > The Rain Vortex

Of course we had to visit the centrepiece of The Jewel… the incredible Rain Vortex.

Trying to describe the scale of it is almost impossible. Six stories high… maybe more 🤔😂 Let’s just say: Vast. And all surrounded by lush tropical greenery.

    > Geek Window Shopping

The rest of the morning turned into a bit of geek window shopping.

We wandered through the stores checking out gadgets, including:
    • the latest MacBook Neo in the Apple Store
    • some interesting Xiaomi tech
    • and a selection of rather tempting drones (in a shop I’ve already forgotten the name of 😂)

    > Classic travel geek behaviour.

We also experimented with a couple of the vending machines … including a phone case printer and a machine that squeezes fresh orange juice on demand.

    Because why not 😂

After exploring floors from B2 all the way up to level 5, we discovered that the upper level gets rather warm… being directly under the glass roof… so we didn’t linger there too long.

    > A Few Hours of Rest

Before our next overnight flight we checked into YOTELAIR for a few hours of rest. A shower, a lie down and a chance to recharge before the next leg of the journey.

    Next stop… Tokyo 🇯🇵
