Rockets & Rest Day 🚀🍺
March 22 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C
What a morning…
To completely satisfy my inner geek, I got to watch a live rocket launch 🚀
A SpaceX launch on a Sunday morning.
Needless to say… this completely derailed our original plans.
Totally worth it 😂
> Launch Morning
Being so close to Space View Park, we kept things simple.
A quick stop at Sunrise Bread Co for supplies:
• iced pecan & brown sugar shaken espresso
• a large yoghurt with strawberries, banana and homemade granola
Breakfast = sorted 👍
We wandered down to the park where a crowd was already gathering.
Deck chairs, snacks, serious camera lenses… people clearly knew what they were doing 😳
> Countdown
I found a patch of shade and settled in, enjoying breakfast while people-watching and listening to the launch checks on YouTube.
There’s something about that countdown…
Even through a phone speaker, it builds the anticipation.
> Liftoff 🚀
Right on time…
Launch.
A small flame lifted into the sky… quiet at first… then moments later the rumble rolled across the landscape… sending the birds scattering from the trees just ahead of the sound before it finally reached us.
That was the moment it really hit.
We were actually watching this happen.
The rocket climbed higher and higher, heading north-east, leaving a bright streak behind it.
As the stages separated, a long trail of vapour followed the path across the sky.
Then slowly…
It disappeared from view.
> The Crowd
Applause broke out all around the park 👏
And I happily joined in.
There’s something really special about sharing that moment with a crowd of complete strangers… everyone just watching, waiting and then celebrating together.
> Proper Geek Moment 😂
Watching a live launch…
In real life…
I was absolutely buzzing 😂
> Rest of the Day
With our plans completely reshuffled, we decided to embrace it and take a proper rest day.
Later on we headed downstairs to the Hardware Store Brewing Company.
A couple of pints of cider…
And a few tasters of their own brews.
It would have been rude not to 😜😂Read more
