Lander

Stunning 2 1/2 hour drive to Lander for a coffee stop. The best scenery on a drive I have seen in the US by a mile and I have seen a lot. Heading towards the Grand Tetons.
Grand Tetons

Drive to the Grand Tetons continued to impress and then the show stopper views of the mountains. Staying at Driggs.
Citizen 33

A night staying in the Super 8 in Driggs. Spacious and well appointed room. Then on a recommendation headed off to Citzen 33 a local restaurant with brewery.
Grand Tetons revisited

Trip back to the Grand Tetons on our way to Yellowstone to try some more locations. Better light today.
West Thumb Geyser

First stop in Yellowstone to explore the West Thumb Basin. An area of hot springs and pools.
Prismatic Basin

Pleasant drive into the park via the west entrance. Elk and Bison on route before a stop at Fountain Paint Pots then on to the Grand Prismatic Spring.
Old Faithful

Arrived to watch the Geyser. It erupts around every 90 mins to a height of 150 feet and pulls quite a crowd.
Firehole Falls

Short detour to Firehole Falls.
Mammoth Hot Springs

Drive to the north of Yellowstone to visit the hot springs. Stop at the sign on entering the park. Light rain first thing but it soon brightened.
Artists' Paintpots

Short stop at Freshwater Springs then on to our favourite spot of the day Artists' Paintpots with a circular walk of around a mile. Stunning colours. Saw our first black bear but quite a way off.
Gibbons Falls

Last day in Yellowstone before heading to Cody. Short stop at the valley after the park entrance then on to Gibbons Falls
Inspiration Point

2 great stops for shots of the Lower Yellowstone Falls from Inspiration Point and Artist Point. Then through Hayden Valley before leaving the park.
AmericInn Cody

Quirky hotel with every local species of stuffed animal on display. Comfortable rooms. Cody was made famous by Buffalo Bill.
Cody

Dinner at Bubbas BBQ then into Downtown Cody to see Buffalo Bill's hotel - The Irma Hotel. Named after BB's daughter. A real step back in time.
Old Trail Town

Early visit to the Old Trail Town in Cody. A real wild west town home to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid and Custers personal Indian Scout - Curly who was the only survivor of the Battle of BigLæs mere
Shell Falls

Coffee at Bobs Diner than a stop at the spectacular Shell Falls on our way to Sundance.
Devils Tower

First stop of the day, the Devils Tower. Good time to arrive as not too busy. Completed the 1.6 mile hike around the base.
Spearfish Canyon

19 Mile drive with stops at Bridal Veil Falls and Roughlock Falls.
Deadwood

Lunch at Mustang Sally's on Deadwoods Main St. Live music and Hotdogs - heaven. Walk up and down Main Street visiting the saloon where Wild Bill Hickcock was killed.
Mt Rushmore

Trip out to Mt Rushmore National Park to see the Presidents. Smaller than I expected.
Crazy Horse Memorial

Next stop the Crazy Horse Memorial. Much more impressive and going to be a spectacular carving if it ever gets finished. Very hot today and a bit too hot for the Indian dancing display running atLæs mere
Badlands

Today we travelled to Badlands National Park and completed the Badlands Loop. Great locations.
Wall Drug

After seeing signs for this place all along the highway we decided to stop for lunch. Big complex in the middle of nowhere selling just about everything. The chainsaw carving place was much moreLæs mere
Long Drive to Denver

Had to cover the miles today to get back to Denver. Superb hotel at the airport - Wingate by Wyndham with a short walk across the road to a local Italian - DiCicco's.
