Fort Morgan is one of the newest national park additions. It’s often referred to as the Freedom Fortress. Was overseen being built by a young Robert E. Lee. It has a moat. LOL.

Interesting fort. One of several that were responsible for Charleston Bay defense. Sumpter gets all the glory (see in photos), but this fort served well (especially in the revolutionary war).

400 year old oak tree. Provides over 17,000 square feet of shade. The longest limb is 89 feet long. Amazing!!!

There is something just captivating about a lighthouse. On one hand I think it is the simplicity of it’s function for sea travel. On the other, it’s the complexity of non-gps travel.

Another Robert E. Lee supervised fort. This fort witnessed a furious canon battle during the civil war. Union won. You can still find different cannonballs lodged in the wall.

This was a confederate fort, outside of Savannah, which was bombarded by union forces on a constant basis. The earthen walls were quickly repaired each night.
