• Hail on I80

    22 czerwca 2023, Stany Zjednoczone ⋅ 🌩️ 64 °F

I hung around the Y to help Joanne and Michael to pack up the common room. That meant I got started on the road a bit more than an hour later than I had planned. So I did hop on I80 from Laramie to Rawlins.

The clouds were dramatic, and it looked like there were showers. I was not prepared for the hail. It started out a small walnut sized hail. I slowed way down. I did not stop thinking that if I stopped, the top of my car would be toast. But that did pass. But then while the hail got smaller, it became much more common. I got a little worried when the road was covered with hail. I have Florida Highway tires, perfect for warm wet roads, but not made for cold and ice.

After I got through, I stopped at a rest stop to check the car for damage. Only one little ding on the hood and another on the top.

I took a photo back in the direction of the hail storm, and another towards Rawlins. The way forward looked clear thankfully.

    Update…
I looked at the front of the car. The front license holder is smashed and one of the hole covers is gone. Nothing serious. I was very lucky.
