  • Crumbs Restaurant

    November 11, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

We were all set to make lunch out of our provisions from the Berryvale Natural Market, but happened on Crumbs Restaurant. Such wonderful food where we least expected it!

Gordon DID finish his brisket burrito (leaving but one bite for the gods) and has been complaining ever since about being too full. I quite enjoyed my parmesan chicken sandwich on brioche bun with avocado and sweet chili sauce.Read more

  • Eagle Lake CA

    November 11, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

Second largest inland lake in California and it's mostly dry. But oh so beautiful. Wish photos captured the colors that we actually saw.

  • Susanville RV Park

    November 11, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

We were welcomed by a whole flock of quail clucking and picking around the entrance to the park, but the photos came out looking just like a field of brush. We have to make do with their welcome sign. Not a rustic park, but pleasant nonetheless for a single night.Read more

  • Fallon RV Park

    November 12, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

We are coming to appreciate concrete pads for the trailer. Nothing to track in... no mud, no sand, no gravel. In addition to the concrete pad there are lots of tall beautiful cottonwoods providing shade in the balmy 72 degree sunshine.Read more

  • The Lonliest Highway ...

    November 13, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

Otherwise known as Highway 50. We've been on this road before, but not in this direction. From the time we joined it just past Fallon, there are about 2 towns on the entire highway til you get to Ely near the eastern border. It's lonely. It's desolate. It is awesome.Read more

... and apparently the Sand Springs Pony Express station location. Much of highway 50 follows the pony express route through Nevada. We cannot imagine!

  • Hickison Petroglyph Recreation Area

    November 13, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

We've been here before and photographed about every petroglyph. But this time we really focussed on the rocks and the views which seemed much more interesting than the glyphs. Had a great lunch under the desert junipers and then walked around. It was difficult to whittle down the photos to just 6.Read more

  • Ely NV KOA

    November 13, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 48 °F

The KOA was a little bit of a parking lot, but when you are one of three or four residents, you can really focus on the setting. We hit here about sunset, oohing and ahhing at the light on the mountains around us.Read more

  • Las Vegas KOA

    November 15, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

OK. This is a REAL parking lot, and Las Vegas is India style smoggy. But there's a big cold front moving into a large swath of the Southwest.

Do we look unhappy? I had to dig out my SKIRT and you can see what Gordon is wearing. Though he can't bring himself to drop the Northwest style socks. Some bogus claim about heels cracking.

We're off to Whole Foods now, first one of our trip. Happy Parking lot campers.

  • The Mob Strikes

    November 16, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

We didn't JUST come to Las Vegas for the weather, Whole Foods and the parking lot camping. I had been doing some research and found two museums we had completely missed when here last year: the very interesting sounding Neon Museum (a graveyard of collected neon signs from Las Vegas through the years) and the Mob Museum. Today was the day we planned to see them both.

When we got around to actually PLANNING our day, it was about noon (we ARE retired, after all). We found out that the Neon Museum was closing at 2:00 for a private event. And what the heck?? We couldn't just browse the signs, we had to take an hour-long TOUR. "Oh well," we said. This might be the Wilson Nicoll memorial always-leave-something-for-next-time event (we're still waiting to go back to Frontier town, DAAAAD). Fine. On to the Mob Museum, which was the one we really were interested in.

Well. After checking out the museum a little more thoroughly on the web, we decided that they were really aiming to give you an authentic feel for the Mob experience, as their prices were EXTORTIONATE. We were feeling a little cheap (we are, after all, RETIRED). We began discussing alternatives.

In the end, we had a delightful and ECONOMICAL afternoon. The car wash had FREE vacuuming and our car rugs really needed it! Then we went to the THRIFTY Ice Cream shop (as opposed to Baskin and Robbers) for a reasonably priced but delicious sweet treat. Finally, we hopped over to the cinema in the casino complex next to the parking lot, I mean campground, to see Jack Reacher. All for less than ONE admission to the Mob Museum. Wilson Nicoll, would be proud.

  • Valley of Fire

    November 17, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 52 °F

Our third day in Las Vegas. We actually stayed an extra day to run out to Valley of Fire State Park just an hour outside of town. We are so glad we made time to visit. We'll let the photos speak for themselves.

Wish we'd gotten a photo of the French Canadian couple who asked us where they could get gas as their motorcycle was not theirs and they had no idea how much gas they had left, and they only had a map of Las Vegas and had NO idea of where they were. Could we help?
