    Senda de la Cuerda, Spain

    January 30, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

today we hiked a bit in the footsteps of mining... we found a lot of wells and wondered what they are for... so i did some research: due to the wealth of the poderoso vein, the richest vein in silver in the sierra minera, mining right here began around 1840, of which you can still see the mining wells and the remains of an ore wash (in other parts of the sierra minera the romans already started mining). the striking yellow tones of the earth where the discarded material has accumulated are mainly due to jarosite, a mineral formed from the oxidation of pyrite, iron flour.
it was a nice sunday tour with a stunning view and amazing colors... a bit short but extendable in direction south - 1,5 hours, 250m in altitude and 6km.
