    Tea for the holidays

    Last time I forgot to take some tea with me - but not this time 😜.

    So I went to my favorite tea trader to buy some. My favorite tea at the moment: milky oolong ❤️.

    So tomorrow I will be out 🏝️

    Arrived!

    Ocean 🌊, sun ☀️, sand 🏝️.

    And a really cool apartment, in the middle of the dunes, 50m from the beach and 800m from the beach bars. Near enough to stagger home 🤣 far enough to feel completely alone in the dunes.

    Nancies castle is our home

    We live at Nancies place on the top floor 🏘️.

    Nancy is wonderful and lives here with two of her four adult children. She lives downstairs and we stay on the upper floor with a view over the huge natural property 🌴🌲🌳 until the ocean 🌊.

    The apartment is almost entirely made of wood inside with 2 large roof terraces. From the outside, the upper part is covered with natural stones. The garden is full of flowers 🌸🌺🌼 and birds 🐦🕊️🦅 - hard to believe it's only 200m to the sea 🌊.

    We just went shopping with Nancy, now the fridge is full and we're looking forward to some cozy summer evenings 🌒🌙 - we definitely have 4 boxes 🎶🎵🎼 with us and ice cubes & ouzo in the freezer 😋.    Read more

    What a lazy day 😊

    Today we first slept for a really long time 🛌🛌🛌 and then ate all the delicious things we bought yesterday for brunch 😋.

    After that we went down to swim 🏊 in the sea (it's much warmer than I thought) and sat around watching the waves 🌊🌊🌊.

    Since we only explored one direction yesterday, we walked the other way along the coast today and stumbled across a nicely located restaurant. Glad we were hungry 🤣!

    So now we're enjoying a shady ouzo on our roof terrace, watching the leaves swaying in the wind and listening to the birds. In the background you can hear the continuous surging of the waves.

    Tam Tam

    We landed here on one of our bike rides 🚲 along the coast direction Kos. At some point we decided to go for a drink and took a small road to the ocean following the sign "Tam Tam".

    In short: too many people, too many tourists, too ready made, too perfect, too money optimized, too boring.Read more

    Living in an oasis

    Did I already tell you that I live in an oasis? 🌴🐦🌺

    Nancy has lived here since 1979 and when she bought this land it consisted of sand dunes ⛱️ and little undergrowth. Gradually, over many years, she planted trees 🌴🌲🌳 and later, when there was more shade, many shrubs 🪴🌿☘️ and flowers 🌸🌺🌼.

    This has made this place an oasis in the dunes, a haven for countless birds 🐦🐣🦅🕊️.

    I'm so lucky to live here with my binoculars 🥸 high up in the trees.    Read more

    Kos city

    Today we took the bus 🚌 to Kos town.

    This takes about 35 minutes ⌚ from Mastchari and costs 3.20 💵. The bus 🚍 does not run very often, 6 times a day on weekdays and 3 times on Sundays.

    Kos town 🏟️ is not very big and the old town can be explored in no time. There is archaeological stuff 🏛️ to see everywhere, but nothing really stands out. Ferries ⛴️ go over from Kos to Bodrum/Turkey 🇹🇷 and all sorts of Greek islands 🏝️.

    Actually, we had planned to take the bus back at 4:30 p.m., but since the city couldn't really conquer our rush, we took the bus back at 2:30 p.m. 🤪.

    Our "private beach" 🏖️ around the corner, our oasis 🌴 at Nancies, our roof terraces 🏡 and the Light Blue 🐟🍷 in Mastichari on the beach 🌊 within walking distance cannot be beaten by far.    Read more

    Lovly bar

    Today we discovered a gem 💎 when we cycled along the coast with our old rusty boneshakers 🚲: the Lovly Bar.

    A beautiful place with a fantastic view, perfect all day but certainly also at sunset 🌅. A very pleasant ambience with no tourism fanfare.

    The owner Tassos and his wife Yana are super nice and hospitable, as is the waitress. The "restaurant" ist furnished with a hodgepodge of chairs 🪑, sofas 🛋️, tables and flotsam, all somehow improvised.

    The best part is that most of the ingredients come from their own farm 🐔. The prices are absolutely fair and I ❤️ to support Tassos in being able to keep his bar in this beautiful place, despite the competition from tourism groups.

    So here we‘re sitting, enjoying our fish 🐟❤️.    Read more

    Criss-cross the island

    Today we rented a car 🚙 and explored the areas that cannot be reached by bus 🚌 or bike 🚲.

    Since off-road was not crossed out on the rental agreement, we mainly chose the off-road routes 🤣.

    Agios Theologos Beach

    A few days ago Rainer had discovered a very beautiful secluded beach on the map - the Paradise beach. We tried to get there via the Agios Theologos Beach but after a few kilometers just before the junction it was over. Nothing worked anymore, too little ground clearance, too much rubble, too big stones and too deep undercuts on the road. So we went all the way back to the Chapel of Agia Irini Chrysovalantou and tried again from the other side.Read more

    Paradise beach

    That was the highlight 🌞 of the day: the Paradise beach 🏝️.

    A truly beautiful beach on an impressive coastline. The sea is rougher here, more waves 🌊 and further back there are some big stones 🪨 under water, which makes swimming a bit more dangerous. Further ahead, however, the waves are tamer and the sandy beach slopes gently into the water.

    There is also a beach bar 🍸 there, which is beautifully situated, but the music 🎶 is screamingly loud - we definitely swept by quickly.

    The way to the beach leads a few kilometers over a dirt road, which is, however, easily passable. No deep undercuts or large stones, just flattened out nicely by the excavator.

    Traditional Café

    After a long and bumpy adventure ride and a swim in the wild sea, we were really hungry and discovered this secluded Greek café with a beautiful view. However, it was really a café and not a restaurant and the hunger was far too great to be able to satisfy it with tsaziki and feta salad. So we jumped right back into the car looking for fish 🐟.Read more

    Volcania beach

    The Volcania beach is by far the most natural beach far and wide. This time of the year no lounge chairs but a lot of flotsam and tons of seaweed piling up along the waterline. Not so nice to get into the water for a swim because of the seaweed, but you definitely have peace and quiet here...Read more

    Kardamaina

    Actually we wanted to rent a scooter 🛵 but the weather forecast predicted a decent rain 🌧️ at 6pm. So we rented a car 🚗 and used the rain to wash the dust off from the dirt roads 🤣. We found particularly large and deep puddles in Kardamaina on the way to the port ⛴️.Read more

    Last evening out

    Today was our last day on Kos and we spent it on our home beach 🏖️ swimming 🏊 in the ocean 🌊 and sitting on our roof terrace listening to and watching 👀 birds 🐦.

    In the evening we walked along the beach to our favorite restaurant "Light blue" and had a tasty dinner 🥘 with fresh orange 🍊 juice and hot chocolate ☕ and for sure ouzo 🧊.

    After that we walked back and sat with a beer 🍻 at our home beach 🏖️, watching the waves 🌊 and the moon 🌕.
