  • What a smell! ❤️

    5. März 2024 in Italien ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

The white gorse blooms and exudes an intoxicating scent. Now the path is even more pleasant!

White gorse or Retama raetam is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, native to northern Africa from the Western Sahara to Sudan, Sicily, Israel, Sinai Peninsula, the Palestine region and Saudi Arabia, and widely naturalized elsewhere.Weiterlesen

  • Panini

    6. März 2024 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

The Italian panini culture is a great thing. In many bakeries and allimentari you can choose a panini and have it filled with all sorts of delicacies.

Obligatory olive oil is dripped onto the bun and salt is sprinkled on it. Then, depending on your choice, prosciutto crudo or cotto, salami or cheese is served on top together with mushrooms, anchovies, fresh or dried tomatoes or olives - everything that is in stock at the counter.

Sometimes the deliciously filled panini goes into the oven for a moment and then nothing stands in the way of enjoyable consumption.

    Ohn nom nom 😋❤️.

  • What a wonderful day

    6. März 2024 in Italien ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

Today was really a wonderful day. It was 19 degrees and little wind. I went swimming in the sea twice and when I was lying in the sun on the beach it was almost too hot.

I get an idea of how hot it must be here in the summer and I'm glad that I don't have to be here in the summer. I much prefer to spend my summer in northern Germany. Maybe a week in my home country, but otherwise my heart belongs to northern Germany in the summer.

However, it's beautiful here right now and when I go back on Sunday, I'll just pack in the sun ☀️.

  • Last cornetto

    9. März 2024 in Italien ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Now I'm sitting with a last cornetto 🥐 and a last cappuccino ☕ in the Caffuccino in Licata.

I just went to my favorite pastecceria and bought a box full of Sicilian pastries. Afterwards I stopped by the Panificio and had a panini made for me for the trip tomorrow.

The owner recognized me, was happy 😊 and made me a great panini. They also recognized me here at Caffuccino and waved 👋 when I came in. That's really the difference between two weeks of vacation and two months of working there, it becomes a piece of home, you're part of it.

Well, now I'm leaving, that's how it has to be! 🥰

  • Osteria Ricotta & Co mangiare di casa

    10. März 2024 in Italien ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

What a stroke of luck! This morning I left Vela Vega with Luigi (Martinello's car) and am now sitting in the Osteria Ricotta & Co mangiare di casa in Modica, eating ricotta ravioli in sage butter and caponata.

Of course the chinotto should not be missing. Of course, neither the cappuccino nor cannolo siciliano con ricotta scomposto. 😋😇.

The super nice waitress (from Venezuela, her daughter lives around the corner from me in Rübenkamp and her son in Hamburg-Altona) just came and gave me breaded, fried ricotta. Just like that. This tastes great. Everything here tastes great. 🥰

Of course we chatted away until the shouts from the kitchen became very loud 🤣. This Osteria is really a stroke of luck!

Later at 1pm I will pick up Peppe in the old town at the Chiesa di San Giovanni Evangelista. Peppe is a friend of Martinello who will drive to Ragusa with me, to the bus stop. He will then take over the car there and drive it back to Modica. I will then take the bus to Catania to the airport. From there I will take the plane to Hamburg.

So I still have a longer journey ahead of me and I'm looking forward to being on the road again ❤️.

  • Modica

    10. März 2024 in Italien ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Modica is a nice town and not as touristy as Ragusa. I didn't have much time in Modica, but it was enough to walk briefly through part of the old town. But since I've been here before, it wasn't too bad and besides, Martinello lives here now. So I will definitely come back 😊.Weiterlesen

  • Wild flowers

    10. März 2024 in Italien ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

This time of year is one of the most beautiful because there is greenery and flowers everywhere. The landscape is glowing yellow due to the clover 🍀☘️, which looks very lush.

Although there has currently been less rain than usual, there are many wildflowers to be found. Of course asphodel but also some types of orchids .Weiterlesen

  • Sicilian food

    10. März 2024 in Italien ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Since we cooked for ourselves most of the time, we wanted to delve deep into Sicilian cuisine. So some weeks back seven of us got together and had a Sicilian woman cook for us in her house. So we arrived and went straight to our main purpose.

I didn’t know that you can eat as much but… there not only were a lot of antipasti: Pea omelet, potato omelet, breaded artichokes, pizza, olives, cheese and olive bread, but also primi piatti: pasta with a very tasty sugo and broccoli lasgne. The second inpiatti was chicken roulade with peppers, beef with beans and parmigiana di melanzane. For dessert there were cream puffs with ricotta cream and then of course grappa and Amaro del Golfo.

I don't remember exactly how we got home, but I guess we rolled. If you can't convince with quality, convince with quantity 🤣.
