After the trip is before the trip 🤪

    17. august 2023, Tyskland ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

17 degrees and continuous rain - Hello Hamburg! 🌧️

That's the right time to get busy with the next trip and that's why the next postcard is ready. It's time for a silhouette again 🎨.

In two weeks I will set sail ❤️.Les mer

  • Good morning, goodbye!

    31. august 2023, Tyskland ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

How nice, here we go 🛫.

I usually spend the summer 🌞 in northern Germany. That means I enjoy the north German summer and the water 🌊, the south of Germany and Europe is usually too hot for me.

Traveling is particularly attractive to me in autumn 🍁, winter ❄️ and early spring 💐. If I anyways leave Hamburg between May and September, then only for a very short time, often a week in my home area or a week to friends and usually "on the fringes" of this time.

This trip is a typical „fringe trip“. At the end of August to my Viennese girls - I think this is the best time to travel to Vienna, but if I can meet the girls, somehow it doesn't matter.... 🤪🤣

  • Strolling Vienna

    31. august 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

First impressions while strolling through Vienna today were: the Danube Canal has a loooooot of water 💦, the walls along the Danube are sprayed from front to back 🎨, the weather is extremely pleasant, sunny and warm 🌞 but not hot and a bit windy 🌬️ and the Danube Canal is extremely cloudy.

So we strolled along the Danube Canal to the Prater and then enjoyed a sundowner 🍸 on the roof terrace of the Zoku with a view of the Prater 👌. Veeeeery colorful! ❤️

  • Prater

    31. august 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

The Prater is a large public park in Leopoldstadt, Vienna. The Wurstelprater, an amusement park 🎡 that is often simply called "Prater", lies in one corner of the Wiener Prater and includes the Wiener Riesenrad Ferris wheel.

So today we walked through the Prater twice, to the Zoku for a sundowner and back again. In contrast to the "Hamburg Dom", the Prater is very empty, there are no queues and no crowds. Usually such amusement parks put me off, but in this case it was super interesting to watch the play of colors and to admire the various slingshots and catapults 🤪.

  • Hundertwasser waste incineration plant

    1. september 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

    I simply ❤️ it!

The Spittelau waste incineration plant is one of three thermal waste treatment plants operated by "Wien Energie“. Its special feature lies in the facade artistically designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. With an installed total output of 460 MW, the plant is the second largest heating generator in the district of the city of Vienna.

At the end of the 1980s, the outer facade of the entire district heating plant was redesigned by Friedensreich Hundertwasser after a major fire in 1987. The planning was carried out by the architect Peter Pelikan in cooperation with Alexander Marchart, Roland Moebius and Waagner-Biro. The previously sober functional building became a work of art that is intended to represent a harmonious symbiosis between technology, ecology and art. A thermal waste treatment plant in a similar style was later built in Osaka/Japan based on the Spittelau.

  • At Sabinas place

    2. september 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The Waldviertel (Forest Quarter) is the northwestern region of the state of Lower Austria. It is bounded to the south by the Danube, to the southwest by Upper Austria, to the northwest and the north by the Czech Republic and to the east by the Manhartsberg (537 m), which is the survey point dividing Waldviertel from Weinviertel. Geologically it is a part of the Bohemian Massif. In the south are the Wachau and Kamptal wine regions.

This is where Sabina has her little house and this is where we arrived last night. A lot has changed since I have been here the last time.

Of course I particularly like the hammock 😍, because it's a real Brazilian one, just like the one hanging in my living room ❤️. Not less great is the covered outdoor space.

So well... I'm going to move in and will build an outdoor kitchen here 🤪🤣.

  • Organic nursery "Schafnase"

    2. september 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Sabina is looking for new fruit trees 🍎🍐🍑 for part of her garden. That's why we drove to an organic tree 🌳 nursery today. She didn't know the tree nursery yet, so we had to look around.

Then we found an inner courtyard and sometime after about 15 minutes, we also found Michael.

He's a great guy. He is originally from Kärnten and has obviously been barefoot 👣 since childhood. He wasn't wearing shoes 👞, of course, and his pinky toe wasn't squashed against his foot in any way. A soul mate!

He is a doctor of biology and has had this Demeter organic tree nursery for about 10 years. He promotes old varieties and is a popular pomologist.

How wonderful that such people exist 😍! Now he will visit Sabina's garden and make a suitable choice - ahh ❤️❤️❤️

  • Hiking around Lohnbachfall

    3. september 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Today we hiked at the Lohnbachfall.

We were about 3.5 hours on the road and as soon as the smell of mushrooms 🍄 started, the girls were in the undergrowth. Not much ended up in the bags, but at least a few chanterelles.

So it went up and down ⛰️, here and there off the path after the chanterelles and at some point also barefoot through the stream 🌊.

Except for termites 🐜 and a slow worm 🐍, I couldn't spot many animals, well, but with four girls gossiping, that's not surprising 🤣.

  • Ottensteiner reservoir

    4. september 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Today I borrowed Sabina's e-scooter 🛵 and rode it over the Thurnberg reservoir 🌊 and the Dobra reservoir 🌊 to the Ottenstein reservoir 🌊.

It was my first ride on an e-scooter 🛵 😍.

The tour was short but super nice. The route leads through curves along the water 🌊through sparse forests 🌳 and then up and down over alpine pastures ⛰️ back to Sabina.

The great thing about the e-scooter 🛵 is of course the battery, i.e. the possible energy sustainability. I don't know what the electricity is made of here, but if I had pure solar 🌞 power that would of course be great (I'll ignore the toxicity of the battery). This is of course a real plus point.

The rest didn't convince me. It's a small scooter 🛵 and sneaking up the mountain at 30 km/h and constantly worrying that the battery will run out 🪫, even on such a short tour, isn't my thing. In any case, I would need a much larger battery 🔋 with a really fast charging time, so that I could drive 100 km/h without any problems and not block everyone 🚗🚒🚌🛻🚚 else. In any case, I should be able to take someone with me 👯‍♂️ and then get up the mountain ⛰️ without any problems and without the battery going dead. I think I have to wait a little longer... 🤣.

  • Over the roofs of Vienna

    5. september 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Today I spent the last night at Gabi‘s place, above the rooftops of Vienna.

Gabi has a very nice top floor apartment with a super cool roof terrace. The bedroom is on the upper floor with access to the roof terrace. Incredibly sunny and thankfully well insulated, with night time star gazing ✨⭐️💫🌟 and morning sun ☀️ 🌞 - a dream!

How nice that I can stay here 🥰😘😍❤️.

  • Haus des Meeres

    5. september 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

The Haus des Meeres (House of the Sea) is a public aquarium in Vienna. It is located in Esterhazy Park in downtown Mariahilf district, one block south of the busy Mariahilfer Straße.

The Haus des Meeres houses over ten thousand aquatic beings on an area of around 4,000 square meters inside a tall concrete flak tower built during World War II.

Of course, I didn't see any trapped fish 🐟🐠, but took the elevator to the 11th floor. There is a viewing terrace and a bar/cafe ☕.

I said at the bottom of the elevator that I was going to have a coffee and therefore didn't have to pay a 5.- entrance fee.

The cafe sucks. Arrogant snooty with an average range and inflated prices. In short, I got up again, without any coffee, removed the red ribbon and left the place of embarrassment 🤣 in no time.

So terrace: very cool. Cafe: embarrassing.

  • Café Jelinek

    5. september 2023, Østerrike ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Since I wasn't ready to have a coffee at the arrogant snooties in the Haus des Meeres, I went around the corner to Café Jelinek.

It is also located in Vienna's 6th district Mariahilf in Otto-Bauer-Gasse and has been part of the "Vienna Coffee House" UNESCO intangible cultural heritage since 2013. It takes its name from a Jewish coffee house family who opened the café in 1910.

The Viennese coffee house is a typical institution of Vienna that played an important part in shaping Viennese culture.

Coffee Houses entice with a wide variety of coffee drinks, international newspapers, and pastry creations. Typical for Viennese Coffee Houses are marble tabletops, Thonet chairs, newspaper tables and interior design details in the style of Historicism.

The Austrian writer Stefan Zweig described the Viennese Coffee House as an institution of a special kind, "actually a sort of democratic club, open to everyone for the price of a cheap cup of coffee, where every guest can sit for hours with this little offering, to talk, write, play cards, receive post, and above all consume an unlimited number of newspapers and journals."
