    Ostrog Monastery

    July 22, 2022 in Montenegro ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

The ride took us up to 17th century orthodox Ostrog monastery, remarkably built into the cliffs. We didn't realise quite what an important religious pilgrimage site this was, as crowds flooded in to pay respect to the body of Saint Basil of Ostrog, literally lining up for the chance to kiss his preserved remains. When our turn finally came, the best we could muster was an awkward bow of respect towards his saintly casket before swiftly dipping to explore the rest of the site. Even as clueless tourists though, this was a thoroughly worthwhile visit, and felt like a place for true inner peace.Read more
