Gobi Desert Safari Day 1: White Stupa

Today we have started our Gobi Desert Safari. We will be in the desert for seven days. Our group is really nice and after a stop at the supermarket we started our trip to the desert. We are going in a Russian Jeep which is really cool and more comfortable than it looks like. The first 400km we went on a pretty good road before the driver turned left and the real Safari started. The first and only stop for the day was an area called White Stupar. The rock formations were looking really nice and we had some time to hike around. Only a few kilometers away from that we reached our first camp and we slept in a traditional Ger for the first time.

We are really surprised as the desert is not really looking like a desert here. It is green everywhere and there was even a little bit of rain today.

Heute haben wir unsere 7-tägige Tour in die Wüste Gobi gestartet. Unsere Gruppe ist super und so konnten wir gut gelaunt nach einem kurzen Stopp an einem Supermarkt starten. Unser Auto ist ein russischer Jeep und nach anfänglicher Skepsis muss man gestehen das der Jeep einfach nur cool ist!
Die ersten 400km des Tages führten uns über sehr gute und asphaltierte Straßen, sodass es mit der Zeit etwas langweilig wurde. Als der Fahrer dann jedoch von der Hauptstraße abbog ging die Safari so richtig los. Unseren ersten Stopp "White Stupa" erreichten wir am frühen Abend. Der Ausblick von hier ist wirklich super und es ist ein Vorgeschmack auf das was hoffentlich noch kommt...

Was uns am ersten Tag überrascht ist, dass es hier nicht wirklich nach einer Wüste aussieht. Vielmehr ist alles grün und hin und wieder gibt es sogar ein paar Regentropfen.Read more
