Farmwork gefunden!

After we returned from Tasmania we spent two days in Airlie Beach to relax. Afterwards we continued up the Queensland coast to find farm work. On our first day we weren't lucky in Ayr and Bowen, but mostly because we didn't like the job offers. So we continued to Tully, Australia's Banana capital. The huge banana farms are desperately looking for people and wanted us to start the next day. Even though they were offering 29$ per hour we didn't agree right away because of the heat and humidity of Tully (Australia's wettest city).
And it was good that we have not agreed right away because on the next morning we got an offer to work on a small family owned farm in Atherton on the Atherton Tablelands just 90km away from Cairns. Now we are working on a passionfruit, Avocado, Zucchini and Melon farm. It is just us two and the farmer, so he just tells us what needs to be done and we can work independently. The best thing now is that we are responsible for the whole process, from planting the plants to packing the fruits so it stays interesting and we can camp for free on the farm. :)

Nachdem wir aus Tasmanien wiedergekommen sind haben wir erstmal zwei Tage in Airlie Beach entspannt bevor wir weiter gen Norden gefahren sind auf der Suche nach dem perfekten Farmjob. In den ersten Städten (Bowen und Ayr) waren wir noch nicht erfolgreich, denn entweder passte das Angebot nicht oder die Erntesaison startet erst im April. Also ging es nach einem Zwischenstopp in Townsville weiter nach Tully. Tully ist nicht nur die Bananenhauptstadt Australiens sondern auch der nasseste Ort Australiens. Hier wurden wir mit offnen Armen empfangen und sollten gleich am nächsten Tag anfangen. Und obwohl uns zurzeit sogar 29$ pro Stunde und ein kostenloser Shuttle Bus von unserer Unterkunft angeboten wurden haben wir auch das Angebot abgelehnt. Stattdessen haben wir zeitgleich noch ein Angebot aus den Atherton Tablelands bekommen. Hier in Atherton arbeiten wir nun auf einer kleinen Familienfarm und helfen bei allen möglichen Arbeiten. Zurzeit kümmern wir uns vor allem um die Passionsfrüchte und ziemlich bald startet dann die , Zucchini und Avocado Saison. Der große Vorteil hier ist, dass es deutlich kühler ist als an der Küste und wir zusätzlich noch gratis auf der Farm campen dürfen.Read more
