Da es an dem Tag sehr heiß werden soll, geht es zeitig gegen 7:15 Uhr los. Zunächst führt die Strecke am Diakonissen-Mutterhaus/Krankenhaus vorbei durch den Wald und den Radweg rechts der Straße Richtung Drei-Annen-Hohne. Kurz nach Drei-Annen Hohne findet man links auf der Wiese die alte Hohneeiche, die ich auf dem Rückweg noch einmal direkt aufgesucht habe.

As it is expected to be very hot that day, we set off early at around 7.15 am. First, the route leads past the deaconess motherhouse/hospital through the forest and along the cycle path to the right of the road towards Drei-Annen-Hohne.

Abzweigung Bushaltestelle

Auf dem oberen Escheweg geht es weiter bis zur Bushaltestelle.Tatsächlich eine Bushaltestelle mitten im Wald, eingerichtet für Wanderer zwischen Drei Annen Hohne und der Plessenburg (Ilsenburg). Hier geht rechts der Weg ab zum Ottofels und dem Carlshaus. Mittlerweile sind rechts die beiden Hohnsteinklippen völlig zugewachsen.
Da der Weg etwas später sehr schmal wird und über teilweise recht große Steine führt, ist schieben angesagt.

Continue along the upper Escheweg to the bus stop, which is actually a bus stop in the middle of the forest, set up for hikers between Drei Annen Hohne and Plessenburg Castle (Ilsenburg). The path to Ottofels and Carlshaus branches off to the right here. The two Hohnstein cliffs on the right are now completely overgrown.
As the path becomes very narrow a little later and leads over quite large stones in places, pushing is the order of the day.Read more

Jetzt bietet sich der erste Blick auf den Ottofels, der früher völlig von Wald umgeben war. Von hier aus ist es noch Stück, bis der schmale Pad zum Ottofeldern vom Hauptweg rechts abgeht,

Der schmale Weg führt zum Fels und über die Eisenleiter geht es in 36m Höhe. Oben bietet sich ein herrlicher Rundblick zum Brocken und Wernigerode.

Nationalparkhaus und Hohneeiche

Der Weg führt runter zum Haus der Bergwacht und auf die Ellenbogenchaussee. Dann geht's zurück am Nationalparkhaus vorbei und einem Abstecher direkt zur Hohneeiche. Den Rückweg fahre ich auf der Landstraße bis Elbingerode.

The path leads down to the mountain rescue centre and onto Ellenbogenchaussee. Then it's back past the National Park House and a detour directly to the Hohneeiche. I cycle back along the country road to Elbingerode.
