Dinner and an Evening Swim

Oh, what a day in Athens! After our inspiring visit to the Acropolis, we nestled into a charming outdoor restaurant in Plaka, also known as "The Neighborhood of the Gods." Between the picturesque cobblestone streets, quaint shops, and vibrant eateries, it's hard not to fall in love with this part of town. Dinner was wonderful and we were treated to ice cream for dessert!

The journey back to our hotel was a unique experience. All 46 of us managed to fit onto a city bus! It was a short ride but gave us a taste of Athenian daily life. Certainly a cultural experience!

Even after a day with a lot of walking in the warm sun, the kids still had energy to spare, so a large group of us headed to the beach for an evening swim in the Saronic Gulf, part of the Aegean Sea.

At 68 degrees, it was not quite as warm as the kids expected, but that didn't dampen the fun!

By the time we got everyone settled into their rooms, they were finally ready to call it a day. Let's just say the chaperones were more than ready for some rest too! 🤣

Glyfada

Heute besuchen wir ein Turtel Rescue Center. Die kleine Führung ist gratis und sehr interessant. Aktuell leben 22 Schildkröten auf der Station, 2 grüne Meeres Schildis und der rest Caretta Caretta. Wir zeigen ihnen ein Foto von unserem Fund in Kalamata und sie können die grösse kaum fassen. Also war es wirklich eine riesige.
Das Rescue Zenter lebt von Spenden und Volontärs. Also wer sein Geld gut investieren möchte. Hier ist ein guter Ort. Denn die Schildis haben sehr oft Lungenprobleme von Verschluckten Fischerhaken, teils Plastik oder Kopfverletzungen von Ankern. Nichts schönes.

Wir sind in der Gegend geblieben weil wir noch in die Ikea wollen, Christa will ein kleines Kräuter Gärtchen.
Wie es aktuell aussieht streichen wir schweren Herzens die Türkei und werden mal in den Ferien da hin gehen. Da die Fähre nicht fährt, kostet uns dieser Spass enorm viel, auch Zeit. Ausserdem kommen die Kosten auf ähnliches, wie wenn wir ende September 1,5 Wochen hinfliegen, ein Auto miteten und im Air bnb Wohnen. Also leider wird es diesmal nicht. Es gibt keine Fähren. Statt Rhodos machen wir noch Thessaloniki und sehen hoffentlich da oben noch mehr Tiere.Read more

יום רגוע בריביירה האתונאית. נסענו בבוקר לאגם עם מים חמים. כשהגענו ראינו שהכניסה לאגם עולה 18 יורו לאדם, המים קרים והכל מאוד מלאכותי ועשוי אז החלטנו לוותר. מה שכן, פגשנו זוג מבוגר ומתוק מנהריה ופטפטנו איתם וראינו את כל (אבל את כל!) האלף תמונות שלהם מהטיול😅 אחר כך נסענו לנמל שקראנו שאמור להיות יפה וכשהגענו התפלאנו לראות שנטוש שם לחלוטין וסתם בזבזנו שעתיים נסיעה מהחיים. אחרי א. צהריים, חזרנו למלון, נחנו, התאמנו, עשינו יוגה על הגג בשקיעה ויצאנו לא. ערב אחרונה בטיול.Read more

יום נסיעה מיואנינה דוך חזרה לכיוון אתונה. החלטנו להעביר את הלילות האחרונים בריביירה האתונאית ולא בתוך אתונה עצמה. באמצע הדרך עצרנו לא. צהריים בכפר נידח ונטוש על הים. הגענו בערב למלון היפה, נחנו ויצאנו לא. ערב מפנקת במסעדה איטלקית וסוף סוף מצאנו פסטה ללא גלוטן!Read more

We've got a four room party house, next to the Metro 's last station. Wow, ths Athens tube excells for newness, quietness, lack of graffitti, employees on duty, seems safe, fast ride to the Acropolis. No broken escalators!
The germans must have built it.
There's a new museum called the Acropolis Museum . It has a life size replica of the top of the Parthenon, and they've taken all of the remaining friezes off the building and assembled them indoors, at a level where you can actually appreciate the art.

Derek Tanner Yes and my guess is they also loaned the money to be paid back with exorbitant interest. Did you sail through the canal or gaze the long drop ?
