Church of Panagia Kapnikarea

A short walk down from Syntagma on Ermou street is located the Church of Panagia Kapnikarea. It is an early Christian church that was built around 1050. Like many early churches in Greece, it was built upon the site of pagan antiquities, a temple dedicated toi the goddess Athena or Demeter.
