Today, our plan was to off-road up to Barker Ranch in the Panamint Mountains. This isolated ranch was the home for Charles Manson and his followers in 1968 and 1969 after their killing spree and before their arrest.

We spent about 3 hours navigating across trails, washes and ended up getting stuck in a box canyon less than 5 miles from the ranch. It was 97F and high altitude, so rather than hike in and out (10 miles), we turned around.Read more
