Life 2.0 : “A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.”

Why do we travel? Is it to broaden our minds? To escape from ourselves and others; or perhaps to "find" ourselves? Do we seek to undergo rites of passage before entering a new stage of life? To celebrate our connection with the planet and wilderness; maybe learn new skills?

Often today, we travel simply because we can. Affordable and abundant airfares have shrunk the globe, making it easy to hop on a plane and relax on a beach halfway across the world for a quick summer break.

But the idea of the authentic , all consuming “classic” journey is something different though, isn’t it?

Aren’t we talking about when travel takes us out of our comfort zone and when we lingered with travel? Isn’t that what we mean when we talk of traveling broadening the mind?

When many people first venture into the wilderness, they often feel like strangers in a strange land. The unfamiliar sounds, strange smells, and extreme weather— too hot, too cold, or too wet—can be overwhelming. For some, this first experience might also be their last.

However, for those who persevere, a transformation can occur. Slowly but surely, they adapt to the conditions that once sparked fear and anxiety. As they gain experience, worries and doubts begin to fade, and this growing connection brings a profound sense of belonging.

And when you return to the wilderness, it feels as though you've truly come home, realizing that your spirit was always there, never having left.

In 2022, we embarked on an epic 200-day journey across North America covering 43,000 kilometers by car. This time, our 10 week journey is shorter, with less driving and more flying. Less time in the car and more time in our boots, as “The soul of the land can best be felt through the soles of your feet."
