Flight to Santiago across the Andes

What a hectic flight. 60min delay in Sao Paulo and only landed 1500 in Santiago.

Biggest year-end party in South America. 25min firework display.

Punta Arenas

3hour flight from Santiago.
Right on the southern tip of Chile. Town is grey, windy and cold. Most shops are closed as its 1 Jan. Very clean
Purento Natales

3 hour bus drive from Punta Arenas to our base.
Lovely town with great restaurants. Ate vegitarian at El Living.

W Trek D1 Mirador de las Torres

Day 1 of W Trek
22km in distance and 1.2km in altitude. Huge climb to Glacier Torres
Horses are used to carry supplies in garbage out.
Refugio Torre Central is 5 star.

17km trek along Lago Nordenskjold
High winds in excess of 60km/h
Beautiful turquoise lagoon
Pizza on the way at Refugio Cuernos

Long day.

We decided to hike up to Outlook Britanica on the way the Paine Grande.

W Trek D4 Trek to Glacier Grey

Long walk with horrendous weather but what a climax to the walk.
11.2km walk to Camp Grey with extreme cold and rain.
Arrived at Camp Grey and then did the 13km return trip past the 2 hangingBaca lagi
W Trek D4 Glacier Grey

Absolutely the highlight of the hike.
Like a huge living creature Glacier Grey stretches as far as the eye can see.
W Trek D5 Paine Grande & Boat

11km walk back to Paine Grande
Catamaran across Lagos Pehoe
Bus back to Nalates 😁
Happiness..... Gin&Tonics here we come.
5 days of the best hiking, Refugios and food compared to other hikes.
El Calafte

6 hours in the bus to El Calafate.
Farewell to Yaxim and Andrew our adopted UK kids.

Glacier Perito Moreno

Interesting day at Glacier Perito Moreno, Lago Argentino and the Glaciarium.
The Glacier is HUGE and you constantly hear the ice breaking and imploding.
Road to El Chalten

Dinner at Casimiro Bigura. Traditional sheep on spit.... 😋

26.5km "warmup walk" to Cerro Torre
El Chalten D2 Sunrise walk to Fitz Roy

27km and 8 hours starting at 0030 but Fitz Roy didnt want to show itself; always hidding behind a cloud
El Chalten D3 Glacier Piedras Blancas

2nd attempt. 26km walk to the east of Fitz Roy to Glacier Piedras Blanca
El Chalten D4 Corrillo del Salto

Final sunrise attempt to see Fitz Roy covered in red. No luck but at least the sunrise was lovely.
Completed the day with a walk to the waterfall Corrillo del Salto
Back to El Calafate

Back in the bus for a 3 hour trip to El Calafate.
