It has been five and a half months since we arrived in Barcelona filled with anticipation for a chance to relax after a busy sailing summer season. And before we knew it, it was time to release those shorelines and head off to begin another adventure on a journey across the Mediterranean. Unlike last year when I was not ready to go, this time it's without tears but with trepidation of becoming dependant yet again on the humour of mother nature. So Ibiza here we come and may the weather be good to us until we return to Barcelona at the end of the year.

Cala Sol d'en Serra. 43 hours later and 170nm we arrived in Ibiza from our safe mooring in Arenys de Mar marina. Dropping anchor on an island we have not been to before, in an unknown bay in pitch darkness while slightly sleep-deprived and ratty was fun at best. Elated? Not quite. Operating in robot mode, we completed our first sail for the year and our first crossing. Grabbing a weather window that you have been patiently waiting for over so many days, still makes you feel unprepared. And so the night-shift roster began with this 2-night crossing. The sail went well including reefing and dropping mains in 2m swell. It is like riding a bicycle and reminded us of the skills we have in our goodie bag so while we feel yet again disrupted by leaving our safe hold on land, this is what we do and enjoy.Read more

Sol d'en Serra 2 Ibiza Marina

Escaping the bar weather and strong winds we headed to Ibiza Marina for two nights. Special winter pricing fortunately made this possible. A good opportunity to explore the Old Town.

Ibiza marina 2 Ses Salinas

After a morning of cycling the surrounding hills we untied our shorelines to yet again set off to a bay on Ibiza. Battling the swell and strong winds we moored early as our speed was being impacted. A bay recommended to be avoided because of the parties and many yachts is empty with Gypsydjango as the only brave yacht at this time of year. Tomorrow will be an early start with NE winds which hopefully allow us to proceed along the coast.

5.04 nm - 1:31:39. A quick sail around the corner to get an anchorage behind the cliff to hide out from very strong winds arriving after midnight. This will be our home for two nights. Mooring here gave us the opportunity to explore the cliff by foot.Read more

29 nm 5:05:10. A miserable cold day where I just could not get warm or happy. Bitterly disappointed that we never made it to Formentera because of the weather delays. So off west we headed to find more shelter from the changing winds. I have to remind myself that while I am cold to still take in the beauty of the environment and appreciate my life. Ibiza Xarraca to Mallorca Camp de Mar 51.47 nm 13:08:16. A strong set of waves and sea sickness for both of us. The crossing felt a lot longer and became because of the swell. 7 nights in this bay moving around to avoid swell and wind. Tony joined with great excitement 🙌🥳Read more

Capri Marina Grande

Capri Punta Cannone to Capri Marina Grande. Off w3 go around the island to drop Leo at the ferry terminal and collect Tony. Who would think Tony’s ferry would arrive as we were entering and Leo would take the same ferry from Capri. We filled with water in the marina, got to visit the port police and Clair and I hitched a ride with a speed boat back to GypsyDjango. A big day out.

Camp de mar to san elm

A quick sail to get water in the Marina at Andratx and then to Sant Elm. Arrived with many motor boats so moored on the outside and then moved in once they left. A good nights sleep and amazing run in the morning.

Camp de Mar to Andratx. Moving again due to the wind. Tried 3 different places with dead bodies before deciding to head back to camp de Mar. But the wind and swell was too much so turned around and dropped in the entrance in 14m to wait out the bad winds.

Andratx to Soller 25.1 - 5:59:51 A long day out.
3 nights here and a run and cycle. My favorite town in Spain. I love Soller and the access to activities and especially the tram which I did not get to take. A new run of discovery which was very special. We had a terrible nights sleep in the bay and the marina refused to take a catamaran but we still got to fill up with water a day later 🙏🎺Read more

Sóller To SA Calobra. 7.26nm - 1:59:55. A return this time with a different Tony to SA Calobra. Lines ashore as always in this bay with depth. Kev messed up and caught the line in the prop but the day was rescued with a wetsuit. A great scramble this time across water to get to the beauty of this canyon. Met a guy taking drone footage of our bay so very excited to see this when it’s uploaded. .Read more

San Vicenc from SA Calobra

SA Calobra to San Vicenc 20.05 - 6:14:25. A long day starting with engine at a slow pace into light winds and eventually beating with close hall turning a 3h30 day into over 6 hours but at least not all at engine. We had the time 🥹. No access to land this time due to late mooring and early departure to Pollenca the next day but the boys got a sup in.Read more

Sant Vicenc to Cala Murta A quick stop. The bay had changed with swimming bouys and place for only 1 yacht. Never mind. We dropped anchor tied lines ashore and dragged Tony up the mountain before heading to Alcudia.

Cala Murta to Alcudia. After our run up the mountain we sailed to Alcudia. We had our first night eating out in a lovely restaurant. Left dinghy on beach in corner. Next day left dinghy tied to pier which was vandalised. Hired car for Palma boat show. Two nights here.

Mallorca Alcudia to Menorca Mao. What was supposed to be 13 hours ended up being 17 hours and the beautiful bay Cala Coves never happened. Good to have Tony onboard for this sail into the morning and great to show him how to negotiate a channel and anchor in the dark. Great to be back in Mao to try to fix our dinghy, fill up with water and do washing and groceries.

Sardegna PTO Ferro

Menorca Mao to Sardegna PTO Ferro. 45 hours later, a good average speed and high max speed we arrived on Sardegna. Very sad to leave Spain but happy to return to Sardegna to a wonderful bay. Great having Tony for the night shifts which became 3 hour rotations so six hours of sleep! A good run from our anchorage and good to stretch bay legs.

Sardegna PTO Ferro to Corsica Anse se Fazziolu. Corsica is magical. I have never seen something this amazing. What an experience we never expected. A trip to Bonifacio by dinghy and then a hike in the rain. Good memories created here. Hiding out for 3 days from the north east.

Bonifacio to Lavezzi Cala Lazarina. A quick sail to the small magical island off Corsica. Strong winds making the crazy entry negotiating between exposed rocks a lot of fun. An Island made of rocks and where 693 died on the shipwreck of Semillante in 1895.

Sardegna Isola Buddeli to Cannigione. A very early morning with good coffee, heading to Cannigione to drop Tony, collect Clair and Leo, fill up with water and do laundry. Unsuccessful with the overpriced Marinas who would not allow a 3 hour stop so eventually getting water at the fuel station and being able to wash the red Sahara sand off GypsyDjango 🥂👏. 20 Euro to fill and clean (cash only).

La Maddelena Porto Palma

Spiaggia Mannena to La Maddelena. After Kevin to Tony to shore we motored to La Maddelena- based on time not within the archipelago. We enjoyed a sup to the shore and had lunch before setting off to cross for two days to Ponza. After spending close on a month with Tony I feel like we have lost a limb with this precious person. Hope he feels the same 🤪
