  • L'escala to Badia de Montjoi

    April 8, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

A 4am start to the day with unexpected strong winds forcing us towards the shore needing another 10m of chain to be put out and anchorage in three meters. Barcelona fun train trip via Girona cancelled and a move north to find protection of the NE. Horrible swell and strong winds with an need to sail at an unfortunate wind angle of 40. This coastline is just not great.

  • Spain to France Plage de la Badine

    April 10, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Spain to France - an uneventful cold ok miserable crossing with one hour sailing, the remainder engine assist. However crossing the Gulf of Lyon is always risky and I will take no wind versus 30 knot plus winds which is often an occurrence despite the weather forecasts.

We are here in France and will sail a coastline we do not know, Antibes will be our next area to explore ✨🔱💛.

  • Hyères to Nice

    April 12, 2023 in France ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Be careful what you wish for! After a wonderful day exploring the quaint town of Hyères we made the decision to keep moving East to avoid the strong NW winds coming across France. It had been a day of strong winds and the wind and swell direction were favourable to head towards Italy. And as I love night sails I suggested we head off at 8pm to enjoy a good sail. With the most glorious sunset behind us we began our trip. And so after my moaning about our disgusting crossing with no wind we definitely experienced the Gulf of Lyon power and reefed twice and still managed a personal best top speed of over 13! Our brand new antifouling is definitely paying off. Go GypsyDjango! Playing chicken with high speed ferries kept us awake on our night watch. Anchorage destination Nice - not bad 😜. And wow is it spectacular ✨🔱💛

  • Nice to Italy Molo Cavour

    April 14, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

😭 Where do I begin. After being battered by 1.5m waves breaking over our bow at anchor yesterday late and an emergency engine into the sheltered bay next door, we proceeded to be hit with 35 knot catabatic winds arriving at 10pm. A 1 am to 4 am shift watching the anchor while constantly checking the wind reports which were reporting nothing. Imagine our surprise to find smooth calm seas when leaving the bay early this morning - in order to sail 9 hours to Italy as the French Riviera are being nailed with BF8 gale winds today.

    Sailing is not for sissies.

Sad goodbye France - hello Italy !!

  • Marina Loana

    April 15, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Andorra to Marina Loana. Ok so basically we couldn't do it anymore. What's up with the swell on this coastline - if it wasn't for our trip here to mtb at Finale Ligure I would avoid this part of the med. On the bright side this marina is like staying in a 5 star hotel after the basic facilities at Mahón.

  • Italy to Corsica Puntalle

    April 26, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Using our predict wind trial with departure planning and ready to leave this coastline we chose a suitable timeslot and crossed to Corsica. Grateful for the ferry avoidance task to keep us awake on our way. Nothing like a 328m ferry doing over 20 knots to keep you alert. An uneventful - mostly on engine trip into 2m swell and a spectacular anchorage in Corsica on the other side to make it worthwhile. Now time for some catch-up sleep 💤 ✨💛🔱

  • Plage de Loto

    April 27, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Puntalle to Plage de Loto. Moving to the bay next door with reviews of similar to the Caribbean had to be done. And yes spectacular- I am very impressed with Corsica.

But what I didn’t expect were cows on the beach!!!

  • Plage de Ficajola

    April 28, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Plage de Loto to Plage de Ficajola. If I wasn’t impressed enough. With the doom and gloom of the weather forecast we are quickly moving south to see if we can beat the wind while still being a tourist. A twelve hour day and a sail with vistas of snow capped mountains- the day was just perfect and then the surprise of the mooring. As we approached I had a little heart failure that our depth sensor wasn’t working but it was simply because close to shore it was over 120m depth. Anchoring really close to shore in 9.8m is not optimal but in the current situation of 0 wind - this is a perfect mooring. Beautiful beyond words.

  • Baie de Cupabia

    April 29, 2023 in France ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Plage de Ficajola to Baie de Cupabia. Another big day sailing south. A good easy anchorage in perfect sand with a 7m depth - 300m from the beach. And the decision made to stay for two days before going to Bonifacio to wait out the bad weather instead of crossing the strait of Bonifacio to Sardegna. I am happy to be able to visit Bonifacio again. Sadly without Tony this time 🥹. It’s a good decision - as it’s been go go go and a great opportunity to relax 👏

  • Bonifacio Fazzioulu and Paragnanu

    May 1, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Baie de Cupabia to Bonifacio Fazzioulu and Paragnanu. With strong westerly winds we tried to anchor in Fazzioulu but the risk with the 20knt wind and waves on our bow we decided to move to the larger bay next door which was as un protected but had more space. However the swell and waves was going to make for a very unpleasant night and so the anchorage was brief. Sadly our visit to Bonifacio was not to be.

  • Sardegna Cala Marmorata

    May 1, 2023 in Italy ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Bonifacio Paragnanu to Sardegna Cala Marmorata. I have no words. Ok I have some. After failing to find safe anchorage on the bottom of Corsica- Bonifacio we said goodbye to Corsica- flew across the straits and decided to see if the Italians had anything better to offer. After an average of over 8 before dropping sails and anchoring this was a wonderful sailing experience and PB time. As far as anchor points - boy they did have something to offer. My best thing is not revisiting previous anchorages but rather the delight of finding new ones. And this one is exceptional 💛Read more
