    Uvala Prodolje

    August 16 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Zuljana Uvala Vucine to Uvala Prodolje. Not really a bay. But it will do and it's on our way to meet Jade so it works. Beautiful sunset.
Good journey here, sailing when none was expected 🙏.

Korcula Badija bay to Zuljana Uvala Vucine. A good time because of a 1.5 knot current behind us. A really really beautiful spot in a beautiful but difficult bay. Excellent sunset and hard sunrise run.

Heading south to meet Jade in Dubrovnik 🙏.

Anchor in unknown ground mix of Poseidon and hard sand. Anchor took 2nd time. In 8m 42m chain.

Scedro Uvala Borova to Korcula Badija bay. Croatia always delivers excellent afternoon winds for sailing typically NW about angle was😀 a run with sails goose winged. A little bit of cat mouse going past the wind suffers and a beautiful after view of Korcula Old Town and the 160m luxury three-masted barque Sea Cloud II. Built as a modern passenger windjammer for Sea Cloud Cruises, it features 23 sails covering roughly 3,000 square meters and accommodates up to 94 guests.

  • Pakleni Uvala Tarsce

    August 11 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Stari Grad to Pakleni Uvala Tarsce. I don't really enjoy this party island and the numerous idiots that anchor there. Regrettably the distances are too big to skip Pakleni and I do enjoy the run and Dionis Restaurant. However aubergine pie and risotto and a 250ml bottle of water coming to 55 euro is unacceptable. Then the subsequent fight with the Croatian skipper who dropped over our anchor and after I told him so and he ignored me and went drinking in the bay next door. So to his surprise in the morning when I had not slept stressing and was angry we ended up in a verbal altercation. We picked up our anchor and obviously his too and unceremoniously dropped it at his catamaran while he was busy screaming and swearing at us. I had great pleasure in telling him that I had advised him and he didn't bother to swim and check and Kevin said that the Italian passengers should get their skipper money back 😉

Split Spinut Bay to Drvenik Mali. Wow... this is Croatia off the beaten track, far from the frantic peak-season boat traffic.
A stunning walk, a refreshing swim on the other side of the island, and a great snorkel. 🤿
It was simply too hot to sleep... and definitely too hot to run. 🤣
Fingerprint Island, you were beautiful. ✨💙

Solta Uvala Livka to Split Spinut Bay. What a truly special time. 💛

Having Jade join us on GypsyDjango in Split, wandering through the beautiful Old Town, then enjoying lunch and champagne aboard. 🥂🍾 The day ended with a wonderful dinner out with Kevin, and enjoying one of my favourite forest runs. Moments like these are the ones I treasure. ✨

A good sail here. Anchored in 6m re-anchored to get out of the exclusion zones - further back.

Uvala Prapatna to Smrka Submarine bay. After our crazy storm it was time to move to a bay we enjoy and to discover a new run to the monastery. Our first 14k run, almost 600m climbing so a hard but beautiful run in barren hills.

3 days to be in 1 place bonus.

Plaza Zidigova to Uvala Prapatna.. 6 hours to get here 😭. In and out of 3 bays and much indecision where to go because of the pending storm. Anchor in 13m good sand. 60m chain and hausers ashore. For better or worse lightning and gale storms this is where we were. Eventually because of the 30 knot gusts on our beam we took a third line to shore to ease the pressure on the anchor. After our 3.45am morning we sailed in strong winds sailing on head sail only reefed with 33 knot gusts and found somewhere to shelter waiting till the wind became northerly before heading to our final destination. But it's about the protection and the journey. Anchor in 6m good sand. Lovely run to Sucaraj town.

A crazy journey getting here with wind gusts and a speed of almost 8 on head sail. A 3.45 am wake up the next morning with strong winds so it was time to leave. 32 knot winds and fortunately we did not take the main up so only needed to reef the head sail. A stunning night out in Korcula.

Ston Broce to Wolf Bay. Personally named as almost every time we come here the wolves in the nearby hills give us a night time show. A stunning bay. The water still a little chilly to snorkel. A gentle walk in the morning.

Dubrovnik Port Authority to Lopud. Despite the mishaps, I am finally at peace, I am happy to be here, our 11th time but now we can enjoy sailing back here which is easier than the Ionians when the strong winds require a move without massive distance to the next location. Lopud is amazing for a tiny island. A good run in the morning to explore the old ruins.

  • Dubrovnik Gruz Pier

    July 12 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Corfu – Tzoufaka Beach to Dubrovnik Gruž Pier

Some passages stay with you forever… this will be one of them.

Immense swell gave way to a vicious storm, with 70 km/h winds and driving rain. Every time we thought we'd make landfall, the weather had other plans, adding another three hours to an already gruelling crossing.

When we spotted the Croatian Port Police racing towards us, we genuinely thought help had arrived. Instead, they wanted to board us in the middle of the storm because they believed we'd committed an immigration infraction back in 2024.

They actually instructed us to switch our engines off. Really?

We were under sail, fighting the conditions, soaked, wearing life jackets, and focused on keeping the boat and ourselves safe. Boarding simply wasn't an option.

We agreed to meet them at our planned clearing-in point in Dubrovnik, and they sped away, leaving us to finish battling the sea.

Exhausted, cold, and relieved to finally reach the Q dock, we were escorted straight to the police station. Three hours later, thanks to my obsessive habit of recording every voyage on Garmin, we proved what we'd known all along—we had correctly checked into and out of Croatia in 2024.

Twice we've been wrongly accused. Twice we've walked away cleared. Twice we've lost hours we can never get back.

Not quite the welcome we were hoping for after 206.54 nautical miles, 46 hours and 28 minutes at sea… but at least this story ends safely. 💤

Was good to go past Jade's ship on the way in. From now on we take photos to prove check-in 😭

Skala beach to Poros Harbour. Farewell Krige family and time to clean and get more food. A motor, yes very little sailing on this trip. A visit to Poros Harbour but 34 degrees so a decision to anchor in the bay. Not an easy one with the marked off area for the ferry. Good laundromat to clean bedding and towels. Worth returning to do the hike.
