Seeing the Mediterranean 2026

  • Dermatas bay

    6 juni, Griekenland ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Varko East Bay to Dermatas bay. A bay with only one brave navily reviewer. Anchored in 3 m surrounded by a rock bed. Good grip and a sup to the island with a church and many breeding birds. No one comes here because the access is through the shoals and the opportunity to run a ground. Aside from the horrific swell in the evening for the amazing photoshoot, this was worth it.

  • Lefkada Vhilo Bay

    4 juni, Griekenland ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Kalamos Episkopi Trachilos to Lefkada Vhilo Bay. A change of plan. Not going to cow bay but hurricane hole otherwise known as tranquility bay where we sheltered in the medicane in 2020. The wind was very otherwise. Good to be here though, not complaining - cocktail time 🥳 what's with the colour of this water? As usual no swimming in this bay.

    3 juni, Griekenland ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Nsis Meganisi to Kalamos Episkopi Trachilos. Moving on to Preveza where we will meet Lara and Gary, a new island and a new bay. Unfortunately because of the wind and the tricky anchorage and boats leaving in the early hours of the morning we did not go to shore. Not that there was much on this island to see.

  • Vasliki

    30 mei, Griekenland ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Fteri Caves to Vasliki. Aah we have no food. How sad. Return to civilization and windy Vasliki which boast epic catabatic winds like clockwork at 2.30pm irrespective of the wind forecast. I guess that's why it's known as the top wind surf place to go for all serious water sports athletes. Just not great for GypsyDjango 😭 28 knot gusts. But 2 nights and a chance for date night and awesome pork gyros in town. A hard ride into the mountains

  • Fteri Caves

    26 mei, Griekenland ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Messina strait to Cephalonia Fteri Caves. One of our favourites. Only tenable in very light winds and nothing from the west. A great opportunity to run and explore the hidden caves. 4 nights in an off the beaten track and 0 shops or people.

50 percent engine assist. Dropped in 7m with 30m chain and ended up 100m from shore.
    55 hours. 4.5 average

  • Lipari

    23 mei, Italië ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Lipari to Messina Galligo. A good sail. Timed the straits perfectly with slack tide. What was supposed to take 9 hours to the mouth took 9.59 to our anchorage. And of course the compulsory trip to Lidl through the tunnel and return as pack horses with two full back packs and two bags each. But we know that we can't acess stores easily in the Ionians and cold meat is polony and cheese is feta. Good feta but just feta.

  • Porto Novo West

    15 mei, Frankrijk ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Anse de la folaca to Porto Novo West. Enough already. Sad to leave such a spectacular bay but it's time to get some swell protection. A hop and a skip away and Porto Novo West is a totally natural bay and really good for wing foiling which means poor GypsyDjango takes the brunt of it. My first swim for the season !!! Unbelievable winds. Corsica enough. We need to move on soon 💨

Porto vecchio to Saint Cyprian bay to fetch my watch and then to Rodinara Bay. What an amazing find. Small bay, not much space for many boats.

3.5m depth good sand. Good riding on an overgrown path but stunning.

  • Porto Vecchio Bay

    3 mei, Frankrijk ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Saint Cyprien to Porto Vecchio Bay. Might as well be called shipwreck bay. Or mud bay. It was fun to hoist the anchor and clean the mud off. Despite the warnings and visuals of the 5 shipwrecks beached on shore our anchor held well during the storm that pulled through. Porto-Vecchio was useful for shopping but not much else. It was beautiful but you can't swim there.

    25 april, Frankrijk ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Unbelievable. 4.7 average on our 7 hour journey!!! What an overwhelming difference since the successful antifouling project to GypsyDjango. Long may it last. May the returns - ching ching of the shipyard costs pay off 😭

Amazing bay. A good hike as running through the bushes prevented anything else. My first swim in 19.3 degree water.

    Anchor in 6.4m pure sand.

  • Macinaggio

    17 april, Frankrijk ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Well this was a nice surprise. After solitude it was time to appreciate a little bit of society and the best pizza I have ever eaten. So apparently Corsicans can make better pizza than the Italians. Go figure. A curious crab came to investigate our anchor. Good to see fish for the fist time since arriving in Corsica. A good MTB ride I to the hills.

  • Saint-Florent

    11 april, Frankrijk ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Just another Corsican town. 2 bad weather days in a mediocre anchorage and an attempt to sail north thwarted by mother nature and a return to shelter in the marina for 2 nights. At least we had an opportunity to get off GypsyDjango with confidence and explore the town and escape the waves in the bay.

  • Corsica Calvi

    7 april, Frankrijk ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

Spain Blanes to Corsica Calvi. Anchored outside the old town and a good bay to do so just after midnight in the dark. A good but slow crossing with all the growth in our hulls but that is why we are in Corsica after all is to haul GypsyDjango out.
62 hours to sit and reflect on life. To be literally the only non cargo boat traveling and witness the beauty of the sunsets, uninterrupted views of the night sky with a brilliant display of stars. To be treated to a show with dolphins surfing our bow and after a sad farewell to our home away from home Blanes to the welcome of magnificent Corsica boasting it's 3000m snow covered peaks and waking up in a beautiful bay and the sound of gentle splashings on our hull, I realise that my life has light again.
A good MTB ride to explore the coastline.
