Transiting through Singapore airport, 17 hr layover from 7am to 11pm. I've been in Changi airport a fair bit, got lost here when I was 12, lost my passport here at 18. There's going to be a VIP only terminal soon apparently making it four terminals in all. Czytaj więcej

And so it begins, arrived, unpacked then went on a walking tour of The Brandenburg gate, the Memorial to the Dead jews of Europe (the name's tragically specific due to the debate around whether the term holocaust is exclusive to Jews or not ), Checkpoint Charlie and the various super impressive squares. • Berlin Day 2

    21 września 2015, Niemcy ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Visited the Sachenhaussen Concentration Camp near the outskirts of Berlin, this was basically the nerve centre of the camp system which prototyped the practices carried out in all the other death/concentration camps , we were walked though the life of an inmate, the ..experimental execution areas, prison and one of the communal messes and welll.....it was a carnival of horror stories really, we ate the sandwiches we brought for the day at the mess and it was a little awkward... • Amsterdam

    29 września 2015, Holandia ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Managed to squeeze in the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum (with guides and audio guide) in one day.
I focused on the part of the Rijksmuseum that covered the golden age of Dutch supremacy and the paintings of Rembrandts period, analysis of the paintings by our guide are quite thorough especially of "Night Watch"
The Van Gogh museum and its audio+tablet guide were quite good , a limited exhibition sshowcasing the similar styles of Van Gogh and Edvard Munch (The Scream) was also on with the centerpiece being "Sunflowers"

  • Paris Day 1

    30 września 2015, Francja ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

After a quick look at the free bits of the Amsterdam Science Museum while waiting for the train, we headed off from Amsterdam to Paris , arrived at the airbnb pla e and found it a little meh but serviceable since the host was cool. Our place is in a fairly upmarket part of Paris it seems with a really large Commercial district nearby with Microsoft Paris having this huge winged building.
Hunted around for cheap dinner place then settled for a Japanese Yakitori place since it turns out everything servicing an area like this is expensive xD

  • Paris Day Two

    1 października 2015, Francja ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

Spent the day in the Montmartre district of Paris which used to be it's own little town around a hill outside Paris's walls where the stuffy Parisians could go to to let their hair down , this is where the Moulin Rouge is, where Van Gogh and Picasso spent a bit of their lives and where the Church of Sacre Crouer is with a painter's square near by.

We started with a great free (with tips) tour of the area with a local Monmartre-an (who prefer not to be cslled Parisian) who took us through all the local side streets and dodged all the crowds while pointing out all the intetesting parts of the area which is how I got a baguette from the bakery that won the seats for best baguette in 2015 which means they win the right to providr for the French President breakfast for a year.

Oh and we ate at a Tibetan restaurant for dinner once I verified its street cred :p We also had coffee at CB cafe which as it turns out stood for "cooka burra" cafe and was Australiasian themed so we're kinda mixing it up a little foodwise

  • Paris Day Three

    2 października 2015, Francja ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

The Palace of Versailles! We started with a guided tour of the Kings private apartments that are not open to the public and are even kept shut out from the sunlight, when people aren't in the rooms , to prevent fading. Each desk is worth well over a million euro as was the China. We also got to sit in the grand Versailles opera house.
We then used Rick Steves audio guide aa we walked through the public chambers and the hall of mirrors.
We ended by going over the grounds of the palaces which is also sprinkled with Marie Antoinettes Mini palaces

    3 października 2015, Francja ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

    The Louvre
We got into the Louvre via the shopping mall/ metro entrance that skips all the crowds and then used Rick Steves audio guide to do a greatest hits tour and then went to the castle ruins underneath the museum and the Egyptian section. Oh and since the Louvre was the Royal palace before Versailles there's opulent ceiling art and gilded crenellations all over.

We then walked all the way from the Louvre through the Concorde square , down the Chams Elysee and to the Arc du Triumph

  • Paris Day Five

    4 października 2015, Francja ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

    Notre Dame
We went and took a walking tour of Notre Dame and the surrounding area, aside from the Cathedral itself we got to see a little neighborhood that used tombstones for staira, a police station built where a group of 15th century murderers preyed on solo vistors and disposed of the bodies Sweeney Todd style. We also tried out Frances best ice cream at Berthillons. There was also the key bridge and the area where Heloise and Abellard lived whose real life doomed romance are a key part of French literature.
Oh and a gamer bar and the outside of the Pantheon, we tried to get to the Paris Catacombs but it turned out that while it closes at 8 it only admits people before 7

  • Munich Day Two

    10 października 2015, Niemcy ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We spent the day around the area next to Neuschwanstein castle in the Bavarian country side, its one of the incredibly expensive glamout castles commissioned by the Bavarian King Ludwig II which was 75% complete before his suspicious death when the government coffers got nearly empty, it inspired Disney studios for Sleeping Beauty and probably the Disney logo.
