• 🚢Lightship Borkumriff

    June 25, 2010 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

This day included a visit to one of Borkum’s most famous maritime attractions – the lightship Borkumriff. Today, the historic ship serves as a museum near the harbor area of the island. Even from the outside, the bright red ship looked impressive and unique. In the past, the lightship acted as an important navigation point for ships crossing the North Sea. Especially during fog and stormy weather, it was essential for maritime safety. During the tour, many fascinating parts of the ship could be explored. The narrow corridors and technical rooms gave a realistic impression of life on board. The old radio and navigation equipment were especially interesting to see. It was easy to imagine how challenging yet fascinating daily life for the crew must have been. The lightship represents an important piece of northern German maritime history. At the same time, the harbor area offered a wonderful nautical atmosphere with beautiful water views. A very interesting and educational excursion on Borkum.
