• A visit to Caerhays Castle

    February 25, 2023 in England ⋅ 🌬 6 °C

We packed up to leave Heligan this morning after a lovely five-night stay. We had to be off site by 10.30am and couldn't check in to our next site until 1pm, so we decided to visit Caerhays Castle en route.

The castle is a semi-castellated country house built in 1808 on the site of an ancient manor. The castle doesn't open until March 13th, but the gardens are fully open. It's still only February, so our expectations were pretty low. However, we were blown away by the amount of colour in the gardens!!

Caerhays had a huge number of camellias and rhododendrons and is home to a world-famous National Magnolia Collection. We had a very enjoyable couple of hours wandering around the estate. We can only imagine what a riot of colour the gardens will be in a couple of month's time!
