    Julius Caesar founded the city around 50 BC and named it Forum Iulii. As a capital of the first Lombard duchy in Italy, Cividale was dominated by the Romans, the Franks, the Patriarchate of Aquileia, and the Republic of Venice. Archaeological findings reveal that the area was already inhabited in the stone age.

    It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
