Fredericksburg, Texas, was founded on May 8, 1846, by German immigrants under the auspices of the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas, also known as the "Adelsverein". A year later, Meusebach brokered the historic Meusebach-Comanche Treaty, a peaceful agreement with the Penateka Comanche that allowed settlers to farm the land in exchange for provisions and mutual respect, a treaty that was never broken.  Fredericksburg's German heritage remains a defining feature, reflected in its architecture, festivals like the Easter Fires pageant, and the preservation of the Texas German dialect. The town has evolved into a major tourist destination, known for its wineries, historic sites like the National Museum of the Pacific War (housed in the former Nimitz Hotel), and annual events such as the Gillespie County Fair and Oktoberfest.Läs mer
