Scenic Detour to John Day Fossil Beds

We passed a sign for the John Day Fossil Beds, looked at each other, and steered Carter to our next spontaneous adventure. It added a couple of hours to today's road time, but well worth the scenic route (2 of them, actually...I LOVE scenic byways).

We pretty much had the road to ourselves and were off the grid most of the day, again going between awesome desert and gorgeous mountains and forest shading into fall. Backroads rock!Read more
