  • Baku H3 Trail #1098

    8 de agosto de 2021, Azerbaijão ⋅ ⛅ 35 °C

Wow, what an adventure. It was 106F (42c) degrees at the start (reportedly, the hottest day of the year so far), and did not cool down much by the end. In a hilarious twist, the hares planned to start from one park, but posted the location of another park. So, that added about 1 Km to the trail.

Once all were assembled in the posted park, the hares led us back to the park they set trial from, don't forget, its 106 degrees out. We get off on trail, and manage to zig and zag our way along, until about the 7 Km point, where we had an impromptu water stop. Then the planned drink stop at 9 Kms, before dragging our way into the finish at 11 Kms . . . remember, its still well over 100 degrees out. Beers were quickly consumed, circle commenced, and fun was had by all.

A few songs, a few laughs, the hares were punished, and all was right in the world. We then proceeded back to the hash pub, and crushed a few more adult beverages. In the end, it was a grand day of exploration on the hash. Many thanks to the Baku H3 for taking me along. On On.

  • On the move again

    9 de agosto de 2021, Azerbaijão ⋅ 🌙 30 °C

It has been an action packed 5 weeks so far this trip. Now, after 5 amazing days in Baku, it's time to move again. Headed up to Denmark for a weekend hash event with the Copenhagen H3, and will hit the regular weekly trails with Aarhus H3 and Odensa-Nyborg H3. Will be my third transfer in Istanbul this go round. This time will only be about 8 hours.Leia mais

    Aarhus H3 Trail #1903
It has been 8 years since my last trail with the Aarhus H3, and it was well worth the wait. We had at least 25 hashers on hand to scamper along on this 9.5 Km trail, finding all the dollops of flour, and the 3 fish hooks (oh, never mind, I managed to be running backwards for all three of them). Many thanks to the hares for an enjoyable romp around town. Big drop in temp though, from two days ago in Baku (42C there, and only 17 in Aarhus).Leia mais

    11 de agosto de 2021, Dinamarca ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Once you see it, you’ll know. We’ll just call this one . . . “Nothing But The Tip.” It has been over 8 years since my last joyful trip to Denmark, and back around to join the ONH3. The hares set a most excellent shiggy trail around the end of the peninsula, and I would be surprised if they actually did it on purpose, but you can see the results for yourself (see the picture). We finished trail overlooking the water, where some of the hashers took a dip, before gathering around for the circle. Cycling through the standard charges, several beers were consumed, and the BBQ fire was lit. After a bit to eat, the temps started to dip along with the sun, and I had to scamper back to warmer shelter. Another great day, and an excellent hash trail, here in Denmark. Many thanks to the ONH3 for the fun.Leia mais

  • Copenhagen H3 #2440

    14 de agosto de 2021, Dinamarca ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

It was a splendid hash event weekend, with over 40 hashers on trail. The weather was perfect for all 12 miles of trail, but on the advice of Biggels, I was sent around the nettles, but ended up running the middle loop of trail backwards . . . And ended up running through the nettles in reverse, with bare legs, anyway. Tough luck, but an excellent trail and party all weekend.Leia mais

  • DST H3 #618

    17 de agosto de 2021, Alemanha ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

It was Blue Moon’s birthday . . . and it came with cake and beer. Teaming up with Shut (the hell) Up, Blue Moon tortured the pack on this 11 Km trail, that sported at least 6 check backs (on a dead hare trail no less). Showered with well wishes, he completed his 56th lap around the sun . . . well done. A rousing pack of about 15 made the journey around this trail out there near Zuffenhausen. Even though we have no RA on the DST Hash, the weather held off just long enough for us all to finish trail . . . drink a beer, eat some cake, and make our way to the on-after. Well done to our hares, and our birthday boy of course, and fun was had by all.Leia mais

Trail #2, the Secret Ball Breaker . . . rumor has it that this trail was LONGER than the trail #1 Ball Breaker. Well, I was one of the hares . . . but, you can decide. 22Kms true trail, and 27 Kms for the FRB.

We had over 60 hashers come on Sunday morning at 10 am, for this 7 Km jaunt around the south end of the Venue., followed by a rousing circle And FUN was had by all. (Note: this was my 100th hash trail for 2021)

    25 de agosto de 2021, Escócia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

That is it . . . I have now hashed in 100 different countries.

It was called the Lost in Leith Trail. But 48 hours ago, I was totally questioning whether I was even going to get into Scotland. After much more analysis, I found the golden egg, and just proceeded onto my flight as scheduled, and ended up in Edinburgh today at about 1700. I scrambled through getting my rental car, stopped at my hotel to drop off my bag, and get into running gear . . . And was off to the hash. Arriving just in time for the 1830 start, it was soon off to the races. Trail was super fast on the streets, and I had a period of about 15 minutes where the front runners lost us (3 hashers in my group). We eventually caught back up, and finished at the front of the pack, running a 10k trail in just over an hour.

  • Forth Bridges

    27 de agosto de 2021, Escócia ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

No hash today, so might as well do some sightseeing here in Edinburgh.
The Forth Rail Bridge (the Rail was added, as it is a railroad bridge), after the Forth Road Bridge was built. The “Rail” bridge is a cantilever bridge built in the 1880s, and became operational in 1890. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. At 8,094 feet long, it is the second longest bridge of its type in the world. A major refurbishment was completed in 2011, including painting, is anticipated to last 25 years. The Forth Road Bridge (in the middle) opened in 1964, and is 2.5 Kms long, with a single span of over 1000 meters. The Queensferry Crossing bridge opened to traffic in 2017, and is 2.7 Kms long. These bridges connect Edinburgh and Fife, and provides a route to the north of Scotland, for the cities of Dundee and Aberdeen.

  • Mearns H3 #842

    28 de agosto de 2021, Escócia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Brilliant trail on the Mearns H3 yesterday. We had about a dozen on trail for this impromptu sort of last minute 8 mile trail, and it was most excellent. Starting with a 2 mile circle jerk, we ended up heading back to the start, then up the hill on the other side of the road. After many well set checks, we popped over the top of the mountain, jumped a fence, and saw the most magnificent scene of the entire valley spread out before us.Leia mais

  • Aberdeen H3 #1988 (AGPU)

    29 de agosto de 2021, Escócia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

It was a cool morning, but still warm enough for short sleeves. It didn't rain, but it did mist on us a couple times, but the trail was 6.5 miles of awesome. Lots of climbing, lots of good checks, and no silly marks that are infecting hash clubs elsewhere around the planet. Dinner was steak pie and potatoes, and various sweets for desert. The circle last a long time, as they were doing committee handover, but other than the very cold breeze that crushed my spirit, I managed to sit through the whole thing. Was very nice to get back on the bus though . . . the warm bus. We finished off the evening with dinner at a pub back in Aberdeen . . . and all was right in the world.Leia mais

  • Glasgow H3 #1951

    Glasgow H3 #1951
My fourth and final hash trail in Scotland for this trip . . . headed to New York next, on Wednesday. Like other hash clubs in Scotland, the Glasgow H3 has only restarted hashing a couple months ago.
There were only about a dozen of us on trail, but it was fun, with several back checks at the start. So I started being a little more adventurous. After turning left at a check around the 2 mile mark, and finding another check . . . I ended up tracking trail backwards for a loop. I passed the pack in reverse, and rejoined them back along the way. But at the 2.5 mile mark, after coming back off a long false trail, I got to the next check and ended up finding nothing. Undeterred, I continued off with no trail and found some very interesting trails on my own. Reaching the high ground, I crossed a farmers field, crawled under the fence, and kept going until the trail finally went back down hill. After a bit of back and forth, I waded across a stream, jump a fence at what turned out to be Crossbasket Castle (hotel), circled around to the front, pushed my way through one of those big wrought iron gates, and scampered back into the finish, well ahead of the last few hashers still out on trail. Once everyone was accounted for, we drove over to the hares house and had a quick circle, and then a nice feed on what was described as Scottish (something or other . . . was like a vegetable stew). Made some new contacts for gathering hash history for a future article, and then made my way back to my hotel for the evening. Good times on the hash.

Published another article . . . so that makes three for this trip.

    Jordan (26 July)
    Azerbaijan (11 Aug)
    Czech Republic (28 Aug)

I actually published a fourth, just after arriving in Jordan, but all the research and writing took place before I left Florida. Published on the 4th of July, the 24 page article on the United States, was certainly my greatest effort . . . celebrating the 50th anniversary of hashing in the USA.

  • KLM @ Edinburgh

    1 de setembro de 2021, Escócia ⋅ 🌙 7 °C

I've usually had good luck with KLM, but not so much today. Arrived at the check-in as it opened (only two agents), and waited for well over an hour to get checked in. Now sitting at the gate, which was supposed to be closed 10 minutes ago, yet no one has arrived to even start boarding the plane. I have a connection to catch in Amsterdam, and know I have to go through customs and covid form check there. I sure hope they get it together. I don't want to miss my flight out of Amsterdam.Leia mais

  • Taking a short break

    2 de setembro de 2021, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

My summer excursion was awesome . . . but time to visit family, and attend my 40th HS Reunion. What a summer it was, 15 flights and two months long (all of July and August). Hashed 30 trails in Jordon, Croatia, Germany, Switzerland, Azerbaijan, Denmark, Czech Republic, and Scotland. This included the Dalmatian Hash Cruise, DST H3 600th, Swiss Nash Hash, Copenhagen H3 Summer House Weekend, EuroHash, and the Aberdeen AGPU events. Great to meet so many new friends and see many old friends.

Was able to get some excellent updates on individual hash clubs for the HHH Genealogy, and cross PETRA off my bucket list.

  • Greene 5K Race

    6 de setembro de 2021, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Ran my first race in over 2 years (since my heart surgery). It was only a 5K, and I have run over 250 hash trails since then, but this was the first time to flat out run. My HS buddy John and I ran this together 5 years ago after our 35th HS Reunion, so we decided to do it again this year. Our only goal was to finish in under 30 minutes, and we did . . . 29:37 over the line. Another one of our classmates turned up out of the blue, Karen (Taylor) Dickerson, also ran. Always great to see old friends.Leia mais
