  • Siam Sunday H3 #584

    11 Jun 2023, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

If you can believe it, BaL and I decided to do a short hike in the morning which originally was 8 Kms, but ended up being 11 kms. OK, no worries, its all good. Arriving at the run site a couple hours early gave us the opportunity to rehydrate and grab a snack before the hash.

Hash time rolls around, hares describe it as what should be a fun trail, and it was. Starting with a shuttle out to the start point, we were treated to a B to A extravaganza. Plenty of zigging and zagging through jungle patches, Klong paths, dirt tracks, and other misc. options, the pack ventured on. While off on what turned out to be a false trail, I ended up returning to the check to find that the entire pack had moved on. Had to pretty much figure things out for myself the rest of the way. Most of the checks were marked properly, but at least one was marked the wrong way, and several checks were not marked at all. So what was something between 9-11 Kms, turned into a 14 km trail for me, when all was said and done. I was not the DFL mind you, I actually came in about mid pack. Others unfortunately had to struggle their way in as well. It really was a most excellent trail, well done to the hares.

With the hike and the hash trail, it was a solid 25 kms day under the mid-day sun in Bangkok. Glorious, very happy how the day turned out. Oh, and it was also my 100th hash trail in Thailand. Whatever.

    12 Jun 2023, Thailand ⋅ 🌧 31 °C

Fresh off running 14kms yesterday on the Siam Sunday H3, today was over the river in the same neighborhood. We had a rousing pack of about 20 turn up to chase Hash Hash and Virginia Slim along the khlong paths and dirt trails in search of running bliss.

It was an unusual evening, as the pack was just in a mood to banter. Accusations were flying back and forth across the circle, which kept thing quite lively, and after we wrapped up and went on to dinner, the banter continued. It was a fun and entertaining evening. Many thanks to the hares for the fun run and all the rest.

    14 Jun 2023, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

It was back over the bridge, same as the past couple hash trails. The good news is, they all have been awesome . . . including this one. Our lead hare Gung, and her side kick Boobie, set an amazing shiggy trail.

We had about 20 hashers out for this one, including the hares, and this 8 Km trail took us over, under, and through some great dirt trails and secluded sites. I would love to invite hashers from around the world to come out here and enjoy it all.

    15 Jun 2023 ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

Night runs in the city, I really enjoy them, especially in metropolises like Bangkok. We started out in the light, but it would not be long before darkness fell upon us, and it was dashing about with the street lights. Most hashers carry a torch, but I really like going it with the ambient light of the city.

As you can see from the run map there were plenty of turns on this 8.5 Km trek, but what you cannot see are all the obstacles we had to overcome, but it was a great time. In the end, our pack of about 15 all returned to enjoy a fun circle, followed by a fine Thai dinner.

    17 Jun 2023, Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

The annual post AGM . . . ex-GM’s Run. Rawhide, with the assistance of Pork Finder, set a khlong path run through one of the familiar areas of Bangkok. It was a good run, with some tricky checks that kept the pack spread out. But we all converged on the beer check, where Rawhide was handing out cold ones to the thirsty pack. From there, it was just a couple more kilometers into the finish. Most of the pack had made it in and changed to dry clothes, moments before the sky opened up and dumped on us. The tail end of the pack, including new GM Tinker, got drenched.

It took about 30 minutes for the rain to settle down, and then we commenced with the circle out in the parking lot. Most of the pack hung around for the post run dinner, where true to his word, Tinker opened up the floor for some music, making good on his pledge to return to a singing hash. We had some good fun for close to an hour of songs and merriment.

    19 Jun 2023, Thailand ⋅ 🌩️ 32 °C

It was a birthday celebration, and ironically on this trail #2060 . . . it was Khlong Dump’s 60th birthday. Although trail was set in a commonly used part of town, Khlong Dump managed to find some new alleyways to explore as we made our way through town on this 8 km journey to the beer.

At the end, the pack slowly turned yellow and blue, as the free birthday t-shirts sprung up on nearly everyone’s back. The circle was full of jocularity, and old man birthday humor, before we went in to dinner. KD was presented with his birthday cake, everyone cheered, and all was right in the world. Another great day on the hash here in Bangkok.

  • Pattaya H3 #2000

    26 Jun 2023, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

I managed to get in one more Bangkok Harriettes trail before catching the bus down to Pattaya last week. I came down for the Pattaya H3 2000th celebration weekend. We started with a meet and greet on Friday evening to pick up goodie bags.

Saturday we had the Red Dress Charity trail, but was pretty much a pub crawl with stops in overcrowded bars . . . so did not hang out much on that, but afterwards we had karaoke, which was a blast.

Sunday was called the hangover trail, and it looked like there were a few blurry eyed hashers wandering in for the bus ride out to the run site. It was about a 30 min ride to the outskirts of town. After all the busses had arrived, we circled up for trail chalk talk, and we were off out into the countryside. It was an excellent trail, and very hot. Afterwards, we had a chance to jump in the pool and also rehydrate before circle started. Circle was a lot of fun, and they do something a bit different. They have a prize giveaway . . . passing out numbers beforehand, then if you get called up, you get a chance to spin the wheel. You may win a prize, get a chance to pull a card, but ultimately, most of those that go up end up on the ice. 😊 It was fun.

The weekend culminated with the big 2000th hash on Monday, their regular day of the week for hashing. There were aprox 215 in attendance from what I heard. It was a grand event, with three trails to choose from, actually 4 if you count the Beer Hunters waddle.

I was all for getting the best bang for my buck, and chose the LONG trail. The hares explained it would be about 11 kms, but ended up only being 9. Not sure what happened, but no complaints. It was an awesome trail. Starting with a 2 km rise up along a hill top, trail came back down much quicker, where we found ourselves in some agricultural fields, not sure what was growing, small trees I guess. Then we worked our way into some rubber tree forests, zigging back and forth from field to field, and just about 500 meters from the finish, we had a short waist deep water crossing. A totally brilliant trail.

Many thanks to the whole Pattaya H3 team for hosting this most excellent and well managed 4 day event. On On

    1 Julai 2023, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

It was a splendid 9 km trail through the bush. Mostly flat, with only three small hills, and lots of sand. Also, it was a cool 33 C. 😉

There were roughly 40 or so hashers in the circle, and Proposition beginning his 60th Birthday Bash. Five more days of that celebration to come.

This makes it 75 hashes already this year . . . adding up.

Just one week after their major celebration for their 2000 hash, the PH3 bounced back for their annual ‘Merican Independence Day trail. As you can see from the trail graphic, it was going pretty well for the first half, but then things got very linear . . .

I counted about 100 in the circle, so the hash is alive and well here in Pattaya. Hashing here is awesome, so if you get the chance, find the hash here and go for a run. Best wishes for the next 1000 trails . . . I hope to be back many times in the future.

  • Finally Friday Fukov H3 #944

    7 Julai 2023, Jepun ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

This club started just as I was departing Tokyo back in 2004, so never had the chance to run with them before . . . until today. It reminded me how much I always loved hashing at night, especially in Tokyo. So many great memories from 20 years ago.

What I do recall, was that Old Sock founded this club to counter the trend of progression of trail, circle, dinner. The idea was that you just show up, run a fun trail, then Fukov. Those days seem to have slipped away, as we had an excellent 6 km trail, a fun circle, and then 12 of the 20 or so hashers even went on for dinner. It was an excellent evening, and the GM mentioned during a short discussion that she grew up an hour away from me . . . several years later mind you, so I was long gone. But cool to meet up with someone from back home. On On.

  • Sumo H3 #895

    9 Julai 2023, Jepun ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Feeling quite nostalgic today, running with the Sumo Hash. I received a very warm welcome, much like yesterday at the Samurai H3, but Sumo is special to me (founded Sumo H3 back in 2002).

Trail today was set by my old friend Khuming Rouge, who just happens to be 75 years old, or there abouts. He made a live trail of about 6 kms that took us through many scenic parts of town.

The pack of nearly 30 hashers also enjoyed a fun circle, where I was taught the proper way to do a Sumo Down Down, as you can see in the photos (sometimes things that get added are really fun). All was well until the police showed up for a noise complaint, and we had to pack up and head to the on after. We had a nice dinner, then someone suggested we do karaoke, and the last 8 of us crooned our way into the evening.

A most excellent day on the hash, and so nice to be back . . . but tomorrow its back to the airport and on to the next adventure.

Although the Brew City hash is fairly young, Wisconsin is home to two of the oldest hash clubs in the United States . . . The Madison H3 (1977) and the Waukesha H3 (1979).

Was able to catch up with the Brew City hash for the annual 'Storming the Bastille ' day fair, which included a 5km city race at 9 pm. We had a fun 5 km hash through down town at about 8 pm, and then some of the hashers joined the race for a little extra sweat.

Circle was super loud, as we had finished on the third level of a parking garage right above the fair, with blasting music, but we still managed to get in a few down downs. It was a good evening with some fun hashers.

It was a beautiful day for a hash, a nice sunny day. The pack of about 20 gathered in one of the many parks around Bloomington for what ended up being a most excellent, nearly 12 km trail.

So that makes three hashes, in three different states, over the past week . . . and I have to say that this was the best trail by far. Many thanks to the whole pack at the MH3.Baca lagi

After the awesome hash trail on Sunday, we got a quick shower at Planet Fitness, and drove up the road another hour. Spent the night at the end of a road in farm country, hoping to see the Northern Lights (there were news reports of possible sightings), but to no avail. But it was a quiet night with fireflies.

On Monday morning, we took off towards Fargo. We now cross the great state of North Dakota.

  • Petrified Forest Trail – TRNP

    19 Julai 2023, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

Another day, another awesome adventure. TRNP is huge, and after the short hike yesterday, it was out into the hinterland to run/walk the Petrified Forest Trail. It was 17 Kms of pure joy, and the petrified trees were so cool.

    https://www.relive.cc/view/v7O9Jz1ZBL6

    A little background on the Petrified Forest . . . from https://dakotareflections.com/mountains 2/theod…

“Western North Dakota was a subtropical forest 55 to 67 million years ago. Volcanic eruptions from the west or flooding buried trees similar to the modern Sequoia and bald Cypress trees and the Petrified Forest resulted. The upright nature of the trees in Theodore Roosevelt National Park may or may not have been due to their final resting state. Studies of the volcanic eruption of Mt. St. Helens showed that displaced trees with remaining stumps settled in an upright position in Spirit Lake. The fact that most of the petrified trees are stump may indicate that the lower parts of the trees were buried quickly and that the upper tree sections were exposed and then decayed.”
