Embarkation Day

Left Ushuaia, had our safety drill, found out I was upgraded to a balcony stateroom, and met my Cabin 639 roommate, Rachel.
At sea

Getting my sea legs. It wasn't rough but the swells are almost worse for sea sickness--which I managed to avoid.
Yankee Harbor

We had a bonus landing in the afternoon where we saw seals and penguins and had a wonderful zodiac cruise. Dinner was at the ship's specialty restaurant.
Cruising Spert Island

We had a lovely cruise around Spert Island where we spotted a humpback whale, a shy seal, and a few penguins against a wonderful landscape. Yeet. Spert.
Snowshoeing Trinity Island

Went showshoeing for the first time at Trinity Island with expedition guides Mariam and Nick. We saw a couple of seals, a colony of penguins, and beautiful white birds that look like a blend of aRead more

Continental Landing at Neko Harbor

I have officially stepped foot in Continental Antarctica. An honor, a pleasure, and the greatest Thanksgiving day of all time. For anything to beat this holiday would be a gift from God.
BBQ Lunch on deck.

Totally normal thing to do. In November. Also we visited the bridge as the Captain and his team navigate a particularly tricky passage. I was nervous as if I knew what was going on. I left withoutRead more
Culverville Island

This was probably the coldest I've been on a regular landing. Really windy. Phone died immediately. Decided to just enjoy the moment, arms wide, pretending like I'm a bird. I was really tempted toRead more
Orne Harbor

Another continental Landing and our first chinstrap penguin colony! They're adorable.
Kayaking Wilhelmina Bay

Kayaking with through sea ice, passing beautiful icebergs plus a rare sighting of a young emperor penguin!
Polar Plunge!

Telefon Bay

Snow on the beach. Weird but really beautiful.
Walker Bay

Last landing of the trip. I couldn't have asked for a better ending. So much wildlife. Absolutely lovely.
Return to the Drake

Day at Sea / Cape Horn

Today was the day of formal goodbyes, a close look at Cape Horn, and the Drake Shakedown. Cape Horn was particularly special for a passenger who's been dreaming of Antarctica for 15 years and evenRead more
