Modern Art in New York

Arrived in New York, it's much busier here, and I'm not sure I'm a fan at the moment.

Quickly rushed to the Museum of Modern Art where I was hoping to the see the Scream! However, they have moved it back to Oslo without informing my guidebook, so that was disappointing. But I did see some other cool things including some Picasso's, Van Gogh Starry night and Dali's melting clocks thing.

I also went downstairs to the more modern modern art... I don't get it.Læs mere

Central Park & Times Square

After the art I went for a stroll around Central Park, it's quite big... and then also visited Times Square which was busy, but I was able to sit and do some people watching (there were plenty to choose from).Læs mere

Didn't have a very good day today, things kept going wrong...

But I did get to see a really good view of New York from the 'top of the rock', the 9/11 memorial which has been done really well, the status of liberty, and of course another baseball game which was a little one sided when the Mets scored 12 runs in 1 inning.

Also said goodbye to Katie today, and I'll be heading to California tomorrow to meet up with Alex.Læs mere

Arrived in San Francisco to meet Alex.

Didn't have a very busy start to the holiday, but to keep Alex entertained I must have animals.

Today's we rode a tram, went into a submarine, saw some sea lions and met up with Rachel/Rebecca (ex-work friend) to take her dog lucky for a walk.Læs mere

Golden Gate Bridge + Alcatraz

Cycled over the Golden Gate Bridge, which was kinda cool, but the views on the way were maybe better than actually cycling over (I can be arty too as you can see). Plus it was too steep for Alex...

Then to Alcatraz to see the famous prison, which looked like you expect a prison to look, but there was some cool history that we learned about. Fun day.

Went to the aquarium, which was a good aquarium but probably not as good as the one in Osaka.

Was good for Octopuses and, Squidy things. It did have and kept saying 'fishes', is that a word now?

Headed south along Highway 1 to San Simeon.

Stopped at Bixby Bridge (and the less impressive one before that, Quickly finding out Alex is not the best navigator...), McWay Falls which has a waterfall on the beach, and a beach full of Elephant Seals.Læs mere

Learned about Mr Hurst who sounds like a good guy and did what I probably would have done with lots of money. Bought loads of land, built a house on top of a mountain, filled it with archaeology from around the world, and invited people over.Læs mere

Today was all about Disneyland, only our third in about 13 months. I think Alex likes Disney...

Also had our selfie stick confiscated.

Went into LA, although the place is massive. It took over an hour to drive from Disney to the observatory on freeways. It's not built up that much, but it's very spread out.

So we visited the observatory because I like being up high and looking down on people/at the view. Then went down into Hollywood, not as glitzy as I expected and lots of crazies around. Looked at the stars and the hand prints, then pretty much left. We also had our photo taken to potentially be used in an upcoming Steve Aoki music video. We might be famous...Læs mere

Traveled down to San Diego and visited the zoo for the day.

Alex decided that we were going to do a backstage pass which wasn't cheap, but it was good to meet the animals up close, feeding the flamingos was my favorite.Læs mere

To the Deserts!

After San Diego we are headed inland towards the deserts.

Tried to stop at Queen Califia's Magical Circle which looked weird, but unfortunately it was closed. There were people there playing some kind of Frisbee Golf thing though. Also stopped to see some dinosaurs, as you do.

Ended up at the hotel earlier, so used the pool to relax.Læs mere

Visited Joshua Tree National Park, know for the Joshua Trees.

Hiked up to an abandon mine during the midday sun, it was hot.

Ended with Cholla cactus everywhere.

Headed to our next hotel and the roads were awesome.

Practically empty, surrounded by desert, while listening to some Rascal Flats and Taylor Swift with the sunset going on. It was also a very good sunset, haven't seen one that good in a while.

America is so crazy, but I like it.

On the way to the desert we saw a google driverless car... with no driver, we passed by the town of Zzyzx (last place in the atlas), saw the worlds tallest thermometer, and bought the best jerky in the universe at Alien fresh jerky.Læs mere

Mojave National Preserve

There isn't as much to do in this park compared to yesterday, especially without a 4x4.

The one thing we could do was climb Kelso dunes... just happend to do it during the midday sun in 30+C heat.

Alex started the walk to be fair, but left me to it when it got too difficult.

Onward to Las Vegas!

Wasn't sure I was going to like this place, not really designed for someone who doesn't drink, do drugs, gamble much, and can't hire prostitutes because Alex is here.

But I kind of do like it here.

Staying at the Venetian, been for all you can eat buffet, and walked some of the strip including watching the awesome fountains at the Bellagio.

Unfortunately Celine Dion isn't on while we are here.Læs mere

Relaxing day

Today was spent mostly at the pool relaxing.

We then started our gambling, I put $10 in and then lost it. Alex put $10 in and walked away $40. Then lost it.

Grand Canyon

The real reason for taking a huge detour.

I've been to places before, like the pyramids in Egypt, and been a little underwhelmed because it looks exactly as I was expecting it to look from all the pictures etc...

But this place didn't dissapoint, pictures do not do it justice. I was in awe, and this was just after visiting the Flintstones too!Læs mere
