San Francisco

Arrived in San Francisco to meet Alex.
Didn't have a very busy start to the holiday, but to keep Alex entertained I must have animals.

Golden Gate Bridge + Alcatraz

Cycled over the Golden Gate Bridge, which was kinda cool, but the views on the way were maybe better than actually cycling over (I can be arty too as you can see). Plus it was too steep forEn savoir plus
Highway 1

Successfully picked up the car this morning.
Headed down Highway 1 towards Monterey stopping at Shark Fin Cove, Natural Bridges State Beach, and... the mystery spot!
Monterey Bay Aquarium

Went to the aquarium, which was a good aquarium but probably not as good as the one in Osaka.
Was good for Octopuses and, Squidy things. It did have and kept saying 'fishes', is that a word now?
South...

Headed south along Highway 1 to San Simeon.
Stopped at Bixby Bridge (and the less impressive one before that, Quickly finding out Alex is not the best navigator...), McWay Falls which has a waterfallEn savoir plus
Hurst Castle

Learned about Mr Hurst who sounds like a good guy and did what I probably would have done with lots of money. Bought loads of land, built a house on top of a mountain, filled it with archaeology fromEn savoir plus
To LA

Headed to LA mostly on highway 1 (Alex isn't allowed to navigate anymore, we have a 4G hotspot and Google Maps).

Disneyland

Today was all about Disneyland, only our third in about 13 months. I think Alex likes Disney...
Also had our selfie stick confiscated.
Hollywood

Went into LA, although the place is massive. It took over an hour to drive from Disney to the observatory on freeways. It's not built up that much, but it's very spread out.

Traveled down to San Diego and visited the zoo for the day.

Visited Joshua Tree National Park, know for the Joshua Trees.
Hiked up to an abandon mine during the midday sun, it was hot.
Ended with Cholla cactus everywhere.
To Barstow

Headed to our next hotel and the roads were awesome.
Practically empty, surrounded by desert, while listening to some Rascal Flats and Taylor Swift with the sunset going on. It was also a very goodEn savoir plus

America is so crazy, but I like it.
On the way to the desert we saw a google driverless car... with no driver, we passed by the town of Zzyzx (last place in the atlas), saw the worlds tallestEn savoir plus
Mojave National Preserve

There isn't as much to do in this park compared to yesterday, especially without a 4x4.

Today was spent mostly at the pool relaxing.
