Churchill Falls 丘吉尔瀑布

Day twenty-six 305 km
From Happy Valley-Goose Bay we came to Churchill Falls around noon. Our initial plan was to pass the town to visit the falls then back to town to park the camper for the night, but the cloudy sky turned darker when we were closer to town, and rain became heavy. So we decided to call it a day, setting up camper and relax a bit. When closer to the town, we saw burnt out trees just beside the road, and looked very recent. Later learned from the librarian a wildfire was very close to town just a few weeks ago, but eventually being put out with help of rain falls.
There is no RV site here in Churchill Falls, however travellers are allowed to stay at community centre parking lot which is huge compared to its population about 700+. Campers can hookup electricity, and use the nearby dumping station for free. The Donald Gordon Centre a.k.a. community centre hosts a library, elementary school, post office, restaurant, hotel, grocery store, gym, arena, curling rink, and a swimming pool. All community services are free for travellers to use. We didn’t have a chance to swim since the lifeguard was on leave of absence. The shower and sauna were still open — that’s right, there is a sauna in each change room on 2nd floor from the pool. We truly enjoyed the free electricity hookup, library, sauna and hot shower, just skipped the gym.
We saw a black bear on the side of the road, it quickly ran away.

从鹅湾出发，中午前后我们抵达丘吉尔瀑布镇。原计划先游览瀑布再返回镇上过夜，但临近小镇时乌云密布，雨越下越大，索性就地安营。 当靠近城镇时，我们看到路边有烧焦的树木，看起来非常新。 后来从图书管理员那里得知，就在几周前一场野火离城镇很近，但最终在降雨的帮助下被扑灭了。
这座仅700余人的小镇虽无正规房车营地，但允许旅行者使用社区中心超大停车场，提供电力接驳（免费）和附近的排污站。全能社区中心唐纳德·戈登中心主楼内有：
• 图书馆/小学/邮局
• 餐厅/酒店/超市
• 健身房/冰球场/冰壶馆/游泳池
- 所有设施对旅客免费开放，只是今天救生员请假游泳池临时关闭。
我们使用了免费电力+图书馆+热水澡和二楼的桑拿房，跳过了健身环节。
途中在路边有一只小黑熊，它看到我们就迅速逃走。Read more
